The Senior Construction Manager will lead industrial construction projects from planning through closeout, requiring strong field experience, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage safety, quality, schedule, cost, labor, subcontractors, and client expectations. This role demands a high degree of ownership, clear direction, proactive risk mitigation, and professional communication to support long-term client relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent industrial construction leadership experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of industrial construction, project management, or field leadership experience; 10+ years preferred for senior-level consideration.
  • Proven experience leading industrial construction work in mechanical, process, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, consumer products, food and beverage, advanced manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or work fronts, lead field teams, coordinate subcontractors, and deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Experience with shutdowns, turnarounds, maintenance projects, equipment installations, capital projects, facility upgrades, permitting/inspection coordination, or work in operating industrial facilities.
  • Strong command of construction safety, quality assurance, scheduling, estimating, cost control, procurement, subcontractor management, contract administration, change management, and project documentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and coordinate engineering drawings, specifications, piping isometrics, equipment layouts, construction packages, technical documents, and contract requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organization, decision-making, financial awareness, negotiation, risk management, and problem-solving skills.

  • OSHA 30 Certification required or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk tools, cost reporting systems, or similar project controls and construction management platforms.
  • Experience with Lean Construction, workface planning, digital work packaging, productivity tracking, pull planning, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience preparing and managing subcontractor bid packages, construction contracts, change orders, commercial negotiations, claims avoidance, and owner/client-facing commercial discussions.
  • Prior experience mentoring project engineers, coordinators, construction managers, superintendents, inspectors, or field leadership personnel.
  • Experience in integrated project delivery, or self-perform industrial construction environments.
  • PMP, CCM, construction management certification, trade background, or formal leadership training a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead construction execution planning, including scope definition, constructability review, execution strategy, site logistics, work packaging, manpower planning, milestone schedule development, and resource-loaded look-ahead planning.
  • Support preconstruction, proposal development, and client planning efforts with conceptual estimates, schedules, execution narratives, staffing plans, and constructability input.
  • Manage multiple construction work fronts or projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with design, specifications, budget, schedule, and client requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, procurement status, subcontractor scopes, and construction packages for completeness, constructability, sequencing, permitting, inspection readiness, and execution constraints.
  • Lead planning and coordination for equipment installations, piping systems, utility tie-ins, process and packaging line installations, facility upgrades, maintenance outages, shutdowns, and turnaround work.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Safety, Quality, field supervision, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, authorities, and client representatives to remove constraints and support safe, productive execution.
  • Establish project controls, governance routines, reporting cadence, and communication processes to align stakeholders on priorities, risks, schedule performance, decisions, and recovery plans.
  • Proactively identify construction risks, field constraints, schedule threats, labor availability concerns, and commercial exposure; develop and lead mitigation and corrective action plans.
  • Provide visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with Bilfinger, client, OSHA, site-specific, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or support jobsite safety planning, hazard assessments, pre-task planning, JSAs, permit coordination, lift plans, and high-risk work reviews.
  • Set clear expectations for safe work practices, field productivity, housekeeping, quality workmanship, and accountability across internal crews and subcontractors.
  • Partner with field supervision to reinforce a proactive safety culture, resolve unsafe conditions, and ensure work is executed in accordance with approved plans.
  • Ensure quality requirements are understood, planned, inspected, and documented throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee inspections, testing, punch list completion, turnover packages, commissioning support, and closeout documentation.
  • Develop and validate labor estimates, material takeoffs, equipment requirements, subcontractor scopes, procurement strategies, and execution budgets.
  • Maintain accountability for project cost performance, including budget setup, forecasting, productivity tracking, earned value awareness, cost code discipline, and final cost projections.
  • Monitor labor productivity, schedule progress, procurement status, subcontractor performance, cash flow, billing readiness, and cost trends; implement corrective actions.
  • Lead change management efforts, including identification of out-of-scope work, preparation of change order requests, pricing support, schedule impact analysis, owner acceptance, subcontract modifications, and client communication.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and suppliers to secure critical materials, rental equipment, specialty services, and long-lead items.
  • Support subcontractor bid package development, scope alignment, bid leveling, buyout, commercial review, performance management, contract administration, and claims avoidance.
  • Partner with project leadership and finance teams to support accurate invoicing, requisitions, cost reporting, and timely resolution of commercial issues.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for owners, client representatives, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, field supervision, and internal leadership.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings, constructability reviews, planning sessions, construction coordination meetings, progress reviews, and client-facing status discussions.
  • Communicate clearly on schedule impacts, field constraints, scope changes, commercial risks, staffing needs, and decision points.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide direction to project engineers, coordinators, field leaders, and less-experienced construction management personnel.
  • Build and maintain professional client relationships that support repeat business, trust, transparency, and long-term growth.
  • Create, maintain, and review project schedules, look-ahead plans, daily reports, progress reports, manpower forecasts, cost reports, procurement logs, and final cost projections.
  • Track project performance metrics and communicate schedule, cost, productivity, safety, quality, procurement, and risk status to leadership and clients.
  • Ensure RFIs, submittments, change order records, meeting minutes, drawing updates, inspection records, permits, turnover documents, and construction files are maintained accurately and timely.
  • Lead or support turnover planning, punch list completion, commissioning coordination, owner acceptance, closeout documentation, lessons learned, and knowledge transfer.
