United Therapeutics Corporation seeks a Senior Computational Engineer (CLIMB) in Silver Spring, MD to perform the following job duties: Apply advanced engineering and applied mathematics concepts to perform specialized computational research to develop and implement processes for simulating in silico continuum fluid mechanics (e.g., lung ventilation and perfusion), lung tissue mechanics, as well as the blood-tissue interactions, particularly in the context of cardiovascular diseases such as pulmonary hypertension (PH), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Apply various continuum modeling techniques to simulate lung tissue mechanics and the related air and blood flow (fluid dynamics), with a focus on integrating imaging and pathology data to enhance the degree of anatomical accuracy within the lung model. Estimate model parameters and validate model output through comparison to human physiology data. Apply knowledge of numerical methods relevant to modeling and simulation of partial differential equations. Collaborate with other professional Computational Engineers and Biologists to integrate models of fluid and tissue mechanics into large multiscale models spanning processes from the organ level to the molecular level. Support efforts within the company’s computational laboratory to use cloud-based high-performance computing for large-scale simulations of biological systems. Communicate results effectively through interactive visualizations, presentations at internal and external meetings, and peer-reviewed publications.
