Role Definition Serve as the legal entity's AML Officer and ensure compliance with the enterprise and business division's ethical standards in areas including but not limited to AML (i.e. Data Privacy, Bribery, Conflicts of Interest, etc) and examines any non-compliance issues, including the evaluation and examination of the adequacy of internal controls.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience desired
  • Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes. Level Working Knowledge: Employs process flows, cycle time, process time and waste concepts as appropriate. Walks through steps, decisions, measurements, dependencies and hand-offs for a specific process. Creates process flow or work flow diagrams. Documents types of process decisions and potential impact of each decision. Identifies and monitors common process bottlenecks.
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations. Level Working Knowledge: Produces and interprets common risk assessment and management reports. Identifies common technology, security, or financial risks relevant to own function or unit. Implements or manages risk management for own area. Documents the key steps of a unit-specific risk management process and associated procedures. Evaluates risk assessment models and techniques relevant to a specific line of business.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Level Extensive Experience: Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances. Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation. Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research. Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts. Chooses among a diverse set of analytical tools according to the nature of the situation. Quantifies the costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success before recommending a course of action.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Extensive Experience: Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching. Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.   • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Level Extensive Experience: Utilizes preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating project cost and time. Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors significant projects. Identifies risks and vulnerabilities; creates contingency plans. Conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients. Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties. Communicates reporting requirements; creates monitoring and control mechanisms.
  • Audit and Compliance Function: Knowledge of major responsibilities and tasks of Audit and Compliance (A&C) function; ability to manage the operation of A&C function in various business environment. Level Extensive Experience: Manages one or more A&C functions or units. Facilitates compliance-related business process implementation or improvement initiatives. Implements specific organizational changes made in response to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Contributes to development of A&C strategies and plans. Improves key relationships and dependencies among Audit, IT and other business functions. Contributes to the establishment of best practices for A&C.
  • Data Gathering and Reporting: Knowledge of tools, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data; ability to practice them in a particular department or division of a company. Level Working Knowledge: Detects and summarizes patterns in data and findings by producing simple reports. Assesses common problems and obstacles surrounding data-gathering. Customizes data fields to meet clients' needs. Interprets and explains results of a data-gathering initiative. Participates in projects to gather data for needs analysis.

  • have knowledge of financial business sector's money laundering, terrorist activity financing and sanctions evasion risks and vulnerabilities
  • Understanding of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and associated regulations
  • AML Certifications and/or equivalent experience or willingness to obtain certifications
  • Experience working with or reporting to FINTRAC or similar regulators

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing daily procedures and reviewing/assessing activities against internal control standards.
  • Directing and participating in the risk and compliance education of the organization, ensuring ongoing and follow up education including regulations, policies, procedures and trends.
  • Developing, initiating and revising policies and procedures for the general operation of the business unit's compliance program and its related activities.
  • Identifying potential risk and compliance vulnerabilities; developing corresponding corrective action plans for resolution of these issues and providing guidance for use in future situations.
