About The Position

The Water Services Authority - Taumata Arowai (the Authority) was established as a Crown Entity in 2021. The Authority oversees and regulates the safety and quality of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services across New Zealand. The Senior Compliance Officers are part of the Incidents and Enforcement team, in the Operations Group. The team helps protect public health by ensuring the Authority is ready and able to respond to drinking water incidents and investigating potential non-compliance. The team plays a key role in ensuring suppliers meet their regulatory obligations and that the right processes are in place to respond quickly and consistently to potential risks. As one of two Senior Compliance Officers, you will Act as a compliance officer under the Water Services Act 2021, exercising statutory delegations lawfully and in accordance with organisational expectations. Build relationships across central and local government to ensure an integrated approach to our operational activities. Gather evidence and document findings in line with internal procedures. Promote good regulatory practice across the Operations Group. Contribute to the delivery of drinking water incident and emergency response activity as required. Requirements

  • Relevant experience working in a regulatory organisation or in an operational compliance role.
  • The ability to apply good practical judgement.
  • Good understanding of the New Zealand legislation and statutory powers relating to drinking water, storm water and wastewater.
  • Willingness to take ownership of their work.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and report writing skills.
  • Autonomy and drive to operate effectively as part of a geographically dispersed team.
  • The flexibility to travel from time to time across the country, often at short notice.
  • Must have a legal right to work in New Zealand.
