About The Position

Kleinfelder's Environmental team is looking for a dynamic individual to join the firm as a Senior Compliance Environmental Scientist / Engineer to support our growing environmental compliance practice. The position is available in Raleigh, North Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, or Atlanta, Georgia. The successful candidate will provide multi-media environmental compliance support to industrial, transportation, energy and other clients. This position is highly technical requiring excellent data management and regulatory interpretation skills, strategic thinking to identify and apply logical solutions, ability to understand and apply engineering calculations and quality control procedures, good writing and organization capabilities, and the ability to work independently or as part of a larger group with the capacity to support multiple assignments. The successful candidate will be a part of Kleinfelder’s compliance hub of environmental experts that can support projects both regionally and throughout the United States. Kleinfelder can provide flexibility with work location – to include home, office or a hybrid of both. Additionally, our environmental team continues to offer growth and mentoring opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental sciences, environmental or chemical engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in any of the disciplines listed above.
  • Advanced writing skills and high degree of proficiency in mathematics and problem-solving.
  • Ability to occasionally travel out of town.

Nice To Haves

  • Air quality modeling, permitting, emissions inventories, Title V, and NESHAP compliance including NSR and BACT evaluations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the mining sector, with a focus on air compliance for manufacturing and/or mining operations.
  • Project and/or Client management.
  • Professional Engineering, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager or other professional certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide multi-media environmental compliance support to industrial, transportation, energy and other clients.
  • Air permitting, stormwater permitting, SPCC plan development, waste management support, air emission control evaluations, air modeling and reporting, compliance auditing, and industrial hygiene support.
  • Site assessment and groundwater remediation support.
  • Select and recommend techniques, procedures and criteria to perform technical tasks, studies and analysis.
  • Prepare wastewater permit applications.
  • Prepare SWPPP and SPCC Plans.
  • Conduct multi-media environmental compliance audits.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
