About The Position

The Senior Compliance Director is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Compliance, s/he will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, proactively assessing the risk company risk profile and regulatory landscape, directing the development and execution of an effective compliance workplan in response to applicable risk, and guiding the company toward compliance through effective training, education, policy application, and audit and monitoring efforts. S/he leads, develops, and manages a team of compliance professionals, including subordinate managers, and is accountable for the strategic direction and overall performance of the enterprise compliance program. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be able to travel up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 10+ years of regulatory, compliance, and/or legal experience
  • 5+ years of progressive people-management and leadership experience
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, colleagues, investors, and external parties.
  • Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and business acumen.
  • Strong analytical, project management and facilitation skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Current knowledge of federal and state healthcare laws and regulations (particularly those focused on fraud, waste and abuse) and compliance and ethics program best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction for the enterprise compliance program, establishing the multi-year vision, priorities, and roadmap in alignment with organizational objectives and the evolving regulatory environment.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops a team of compliance managers and professionals; sets performance expectations, conducts evaluations, allocates resources, and builds departmental capability and bench strength.
  • Proactively owns and directs the organization’s enterprise-wide risk assessment framework and processes; conducts regular assessments to identify potential risks across various departments and function.
  • Leads the conduction of the annual risk assessment and creation of the forthcoming year’s compliance plan, participating and leading team surveys and discussions to decipher where to most effectively focus compliance program.
  • Monitors and evaluates compliance and enforcement trends and government oversight of healthcare activities that may affect Compassus and its business to support proactive compliance planning and education.
  • Monitors internal compliance inquiries and reporting trends, proactively identifying and incorporating opportunities for policy clarifications, enhancements, and ad hoc education.
  • Advises executive leadership and the Board of Directors on actual, potential, and emerging risks and related controls design; partners across the enterprise to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans; and works closely with departmental leaders to ensure effective risk management practices are integrated into daily operations; ensures necessary follow-up takes place to resolve open items and that controls are in place to successfully mitigate business and regulatory compliance risks
  • Directs and oversees internal and external audit and monitoring activities, including routine external compliance partner audits, internal workplan items, and ad hoc reviews.
  • Advises the business on compliance requirements and policy application and adherence; develops and updates written guidelines to comply with evolving requirements and risk profile as needed.
  • Manages compliance oversight of vendors, contractors, and subcontractors, maintaining a master list of core company third parties and performing annual reviews on key relationships where deemed necessary.
  • Collaborates in the creation of required and ad hoc company compliance trainings, communicating and working with company leadership to tailor content to specific needs.
  • Adapts to and reacts to the needs of a rapidly growing and changing business and understand the complexities of a large organization.
