About The Position

Shape compensation strategy for some of Ameriprise's most critical businesses, including U.S. Wealth Management, RiverSource Insurance & Annuities, and Field Operations. As a Senior Compensation Consultant, you'll partner directly with business leaders to deliver market insights, solve complex workforce challenges, and influence talent decisions that attract, retain, and motivate top talent. We're seeking a strategic advisor with strong business acumen, executive presence, and the ability to build credibility and influence across all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in compensation, total rewards, HR consulting, or a related field.
  • Strong business acumen and experience advising leaders on complex workforce issues.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities.
  • Valid work authorization that does not now, or in the future, require visa sponsorship for employment in the United States (e.g., H-1B, F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, TN).

Nice To Haves

  • Compensation consulting experience in financial services or another complex, highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with market pricing, salary structures, job evaluation, compensation surveys, and HR technology.
  • Experience supporting leaders through organizational growth and change.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary compensation consultant for assigned business areas.
  • Build trusted partnerships with business leaders and HR teams to understand priorities and translate them into practical compensation strategies.
  • Advise on hiring, promotions, organizational changes, career progression, and retention.
  • Conduct market pricing and competitive analyses using survey data and industry benchmarks.
  • Analyze market and workforce trends to identify risks, opportunities, and emerging practices.
  • Recommend pay positioning and compensation structures that balance competitiveness, internal equity, and business needs.
  • Lead or support enterprise and business-specific compensation initiatives.
  • Support annual compensation planning, pay program reviews, job evaluations, and career framework work.
  • Improve compensation processes and program effectiveness.
  • Prepare clear, decision-focused analyses and presentations for senior leaders and executive reviews.
  • Develop recommendations that reflect business priorities, market competitiveness, internal equity, and governance.
  • Serve as a compensation subject matter expert and provide practical guidance to leaders, HR partners, and employees.
  • Explain compensation philosophy, market dynamics, policies, and pay decisions in clear business terms.
