About The Position

The Gates Foundation is seeking a dedicated communications strategist to support enterprise communications on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This role is crucial as the foundation increases its AI engagement through partnerships, deployments in health, education, and agriculture, and its leaders becoming public voices on AI for good. The position is a limited-term role for 24 months, with relocation assistance provided. The successful candidate will work with the Deputy Director, Strategic Communications, and collaborate across program teams, frontier lab partner comms leads, regional offices, and the broader communications division. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on execution in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with 10+ years of experience or equivalent.
  • Experience working with frontier AI and/or emerging technology organizations on communications.
  • Global health or international development experience in a foundation, multilateral, or government organization.
  • Strong initiative, organizational skills, and ability to work autonomously and cross-functionally.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks, priorities, and responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to handle complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with distributed leadership.
  • Unrestricted work authorization in the country where the position is located.
  • Must not require immigration-related sponsorship from the company.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a clear, differentiated foundation narrative on AI for Good.
  • Develop positioning statements, FAQs, and narrative frameworks adaptable across audiences and formats.
  • Conduct an audit of upcoming moments (partnership announcements, product milestones, speaking opportunities, global convenings) and create an editorial calendar for sustained narrative presence.
  • Define a point of view for broader public audiences on the importance of AI for global equity and its stakes.
  • Develop and lead the execution of a proactive media strategy for the foundation's AI work, including media resources, journalist relationships, outlet prioritization, and collaboration on storytelling.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for foundation voices in op-eds, essays, panel appearances, keynotes, and podcasts.
  • Develop a pipeline of stories connecting AI partnerships to real-world impact.
  • Lead the integration of AI communications into the foundation's priority campaigns.
  • Convene communications division colleagues to discuss strategy and implementation.
  • Work with regional communications teams to share the strategy framework and support local adaptation.
  • Participate in enterprise AI conversations and represent the communications team in interactions with senior AI leaders.
  • Support enterprise communications on AI.
