Senior Communications Manager | Global

DeepLNew York, NY
$148,800 - $200,000Hybrid

About The Position

We're looking for a stellar Sr. Communications Manager to shape how the world understands DeepL, and Language AI as a whole. This is a global role based in the US. You'll sit on our global comms team and help drive our narrative across every market we operate in, while owning a sharp read on the US, one of our fastest-growing markets and where much of the conversation about AI is being set. You'll move between the global story and the local one constantly, as comfortable briefing a reporter in New York as you are shaping a launch that has to land everywhere at once. Comms is one of our most important levers right now. AI is a noisy, fast-moving space, and people are still deciding what to believe and who to trust. In that environment, a clear and honest story is a real advantage. The work you do will shape how the world understands Language AI as a category, and why DeepL is the company defining it. If we get this right, it's because our story is clear, our voice is trusted, and we set the pace of the conversation rather than reacting to it. It's a role for a builder. As we invest more in the US, you'll help take our comms here to the next level, with the room to shape the plan and run it, working closely with colleagues across Europe and with our product, policy, sales, marketing and leadership teams. You'll report to our Head of Global Communications.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years in communications, ideally in tech, with work you clearly owned and shipped
  • A builder who owns the outcome. You spot what could work better and make it happen, then see it through end to end
  • Fast-moving. You like a quick pace, make decisions without fuss, and get energy from shipping.
  • Hands-on. You'll write the post, make the pitch, and build the deck yourself, and enjoy it.
  • AI-savvy, or genuinely curious about how it changes the way we work, and keen to use it in your own day-to-day
  • A strong writer. You make complex things clear and human, which is how DeepL likes to sound.
  • Genuinely into AI, and Language AI especially. You follow where it's going and can talk about it with real conviction.
  • Excited to travel several times a year for in person team events and other communications engagements, throughout the US and worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Own DeepL's press relationships, with the US as your home base and a remit that reaches across our markets, from the top business and tech outlets to the podcasts and writers shaping how the world talks about AI, and the stories that show what we're building and why it matters.
  • Drive our written storytelling, mainly press releases and bylines, plus the messaging behind our biggest moments. This is the core of the role, and it only works if you're a genuinely strong writer.
  • Define the messaging frameworks that clarify our category, our technology, and the value we create, and keep them sharp and consistent everywhere they show up.
  • Shape executive thought leadership: advise our CXOs on their social presence, and bring our comms work to life across DeepL's own channels.
  • Watch the market and our competitors closely, and turn what you see into openings for DeepL to stand out.
  • Work closely with marketing, and across product, policy, legal, and leadership, to stay on top of what's happening in the business and turn it into comms opportunities worth chasing.
  • Protect and strengthen DeepL's reputation: brief journalists, correct misperceptions, advise other teams on reputational risk, and handle issues and crises with judgment, speed, and discretion.
  • Land and manage the speaking opportunities that put our leaders on the right stages, build out that network, and be there with them, prepping spokespeople and working the room at the events and industry moments that matter.
  • Track what's landing, share of voice, sentiment, coverage quality, and double down on what moves perception.
  • Help scale the function as we grow: sharpen the systems, processes, and agency partnerships that keep comms running well at a bigger scale, and bring the ideas we haven't had yet.

Benefits

  • Diverse and internationally distributed team
  • Open communication, regular feedback
  • Hybrid work, flexible hours
  • Virtual Shares - An ownership mindset in every role.
  • Regular in-person team events
  • Monthly full-day hacking sessions
  • 30 days of annual leave
  • Competitive benefits
