About The Position

Fivetran is seeking a business-minded Senior Commercial Counsel with deep experience in drafting and negotiating customer agreements for leading global and domestic organizations. This role will be a key partner and liaison to other Fivetran departments and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a high-impact individual contributor with extensive legal expertise, sound business judgment, and the ability to operate independently on complex commercial matters. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Denver, Colorado, with a blend of remote flexibility and in-office collaboration (two days per week).

Requirements

  • Highly accomplished commercial attorney with 8+ years of experience in negotiating commercial contracts at high-growth technology companies.
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in data and privacy.
  • Proven negotiator with a deep understanding of global commercial transactions.
  • Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and finalizing complex agreements, such as sales agreements, SaaS and enterprise B2B transactions, and data processing agreements (compliance with GDPR, CCPA and other data protection laws), including on customer paper.
  • Process-oriented lawyer with a passion for building and optimizing processes and procedures in partnership with legal operations.
  • Proven track record of achieving high-volume, quick turn on execution of agreements constructed to mitigate risk and support revenue growth, including customer paper review.
  • Strong communicator with exceptional written and verbal skills, capable of clearly articulating complex legal concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail, with demonstrated self-initiative that drives a desire for impact and achievement.
  • JD and admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction, with eligibility to become a registered in-house counsel in either California or Colorado preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using AI tools (such as Claude or similar) to enhance legal workflow efficiency, including contract review, drafting, and research.
  • CIPP (US) certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review, revise, and negotiate commercial contracts, including customer paper agreements.
  • Serve as a designated legal contact for Fivetran’s enterprise sales team, including providing education, training, and communications regarding changes to customer agreements.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight on contracting, enablement, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Create and update commercial legal team playbooks to ensure alignment with internal stakeholders.
  • Own and improve key template documents, including periodic revisions and improvements, and operationalize templates into the contracts management and automation tool.
  • Liaise with Fivetran’s product team to understand how product updates may impact existing or new customer agreements.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices for commercial contract lifecycle management, ensuring efficient review, negotiation, and approval processes.
  • Stay abreast of evolving legal trends and industry best practices in the SaaS and data privacy space.
  • Complete other special projects based on interest areas and the needs of a rapidly scaling company and team.
