About The Position

The Senior, Color Manager leads the color process for multiple brands and/or business families. This role requires strong collaboration skills, building trust with teams and key partners, and identifying opportunities for collaboration. The Senior, Color Manager is known as a trusted, collaborative, and results-oriented partner to the Private Brands Overseas, Design, and Product teams. They effectively lead through complex situations and influence business partners. They evaluate situations to ensure alignment with company strategy.

  • Color Differentiation: Ability to accurately and consistently differentiate and describe color differences.
  • Knowledge of Dyes and Dyeing Techniques: Understanding dyes, dyeing techniques for varied fiber contents, textile structures, and their influence on color appearance.
  • Visual and Instrumental Color Evaluation: Proficiency in using spectrophotometers, light boxes, and other color tools to evaluate colors visually and instrumentally with accurate and consistent techniques. Superior score on 100 Hue Test required.
  • Trend Research: Research and analyze color trends and concepts for brand development presentations.
  • Color Palette Development: Support the design team in developing seasonal color palettes and maintaining the history and analysis of previous palettes.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise when determining color/fabric combinations for the season and CAD matches for colors on the palette.
  • Problem Solving: Anticipate color problems, proactively resolve concerns or issues, and execute print and pattern color evaluation.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend improvements to the color approval procedures and seek opportunities to expand the role and improve customer support.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks (sense of urgency) and attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with internal and external customers/clients, and create and sustain high-performing teams.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Excel. Understanding of fabric properties and construction (knit, woven, denim, sweaters) and how these properties affect finished garments. Proficiency in PLM is a plus.
  • Analytical and Reasoning Ability: Ability to multitask, work cross-functionally with multiple business partners, and solve problems using both intuition and analytics.
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to effectively plan and execute strategies while maintaining open and continuous communication, valuing keeping others informed, and presenting information clearly and concisely.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, train, and develop the team.
  • Differentiate colors accurately and consistently describe color differences.
  • Have knowledge of dyes, dyeing techniques for varied fiber contents, textile structures, and their influence on color appearance, as well as industry standards.
  • Understand visual and instrumental color evaluation with accurate and consistent techniques, including using spectrophotometers, light boxes, and other color tools.
  • Research color trends and concepts for brand development presentations (NY team only).
  • Maintain the brand concept and identity in all approval decisions (NY team only).
  • Maintain history and analysis of previous palettes.
  • Support the design team in developing seasonal color palettes (NY team only).
  • Facilitate digital and visual color searches within the color library and supplier libraries (NY team only).
  • Administer the communication of color palettes through entry into Macy’s color system.
  • Assist with color library updates (NY team only).
  • Distribute color standards and/or color cards to all Macy’s internal partners.
  • Provide technical expertise when determining color/fabric combinations for the season.
  • Provide CAD matches for colors on the palette (NY team only).
  • Partner with Digital Merchants in communicating and managing Hex values (NY team only).
  • Attend key brand meetings and support company initiatives (NY team only).
  • Partner with OS Colorist on visual and instrumental color approval decisions for lab dips, trims, and bulk (NY team only).
  • Partner with Color Service Providers and OS Teams to provide technical expertise on challenging color/fabrications.
  • Actively implement the color process and execute against the End-to-End calendar.
  • Maintain turn time requirements to achieve on-time delivery.
  • Communicate extensively with the brand team, overseas offices, suppliers, and mills on corrections and performance issues related to color or production techniques (NY team only).
  • Provide metrics for performance assessment and monitor patterns in performance to make recommendations.
  • Anticipate color problems and proactively resolve concerns or issues on color matches inherent in fabric selections, partnering with the color manager, design, and product development team.
  • Execute print and pattern color evaluation (NY team only).
  • Conduct alignment audits on decisions owned by the supply chain.
  • Recommend improvements to the color approval procedures.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to expand the role and improve customer support (NY team only).
  • Be highly organized, able to prioritize (sense of urgency), and have attention to detail.
