About The Position

540 is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support our partnership with Google and the Department of War in advancing mission-critical capabilities for a global data processing platform. This platform leverages Machine Learning, modern cloud and containerized technologies to ingest, process, and analyze high-volume, time-series data. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and platform services that enable near real-time data processing and mission insight. You will work closely with architects, engineers, and mission stakeholders to implement scalable, resilient, and secure systems within highly regulated, high-impact environments. Location: Patrick SFB, FL or Arlington, VA. Candidates should be local to either location. Onsite support may be required based on mission and customer needs. Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps roles
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
  • Strong experience with containerized environments
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Deployment Manager, or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining high-performance data processing systems
  • Experience operating a high-security and/or highly regulated cloud environment
  • Knowledge of Event-Driven or Asynchronous architectural patterns
  • Experience implementing identity, and access management (IAM) concepts for cross-functional teams
  • Experience implementing Zero-Trust concepts
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking
  • Experience working with distributed systems and cloud-native architectures
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting production systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Google Cloud services (Cloud Networking, IAM, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Run)
  • Google Cloud certifications such as Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, or Associate Cloud Engineer
  • Experience with Internet-of-Things (IoT)
  • Experience supporting high-throughput or time-series data processing systems
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and security compliance framework
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government programs, particularly DoW environments

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and manage cloud infrastructure and platform services in multiple Google Cloud environments
  • Implement and maintain containerized workloads
  • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or similar
  • Build and support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to implement scalable, secure, and resilient system designs
  • Support the ingestion, processing, and storage of high-volume, time-series data
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize reliability and cost
  • Implement and maintain cloud networking, security controls, and access management
  • Support system integrations across services, APIs, and platform components
  • Contribute to technical documentation, operational runbooks, and system design artifacts
  • Work with delivery teams and stakeholders to ensure systems meet mission needs and timelines
