Senior Cloud DevOps Developer

About The Position

The Digital Cloud DevOps team at RBC powers the developer platforms and delivery pipelines that bring client-facing journeys to life — every single day. We've moved beyond simply digitizing banking capabilities to driving end-to-end transformation of how clients experience their finances. Our secret sauce is how our business and technology teams work seamlessly as one, and our DevOps platform is what makes that possible at speed. We eat, sleep, and breathe agile — Build. Test. Learn. We believe technical excellence is what makes this way of working sustainable, and we take real ownership of the platforms we build. If you're the kind of engineer who gets energized by eliminating bottlenecks, raising the bar on reliability, and building platforms other developers love to use — come build the tech stack of the future with us.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field (e.g. Engineering, Mathematics, Physics), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on DevOps experience, including designing and operating CI/CD pipelines in production environments and managing containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proven experience with GitHub Actions to build automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
  • Proficiency in Node.js for writing and maintaining deployment scripts, automation tooling, and pipeline utilities.
  • Working knowledge of frontend and backend development languages (Angular, Java, Node.js) and package management tools (npm, Maven) sufficient to collaborate effectively with application teams and troubleshoot pipeline and runtime issues.
  • Experience supporting production-level software using monitoring and observability tools (Splunk, Dynatrace).
  • Strong understanding of software delivery best practices: version control, code review, branching strategies, and release management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with OpenShift (OCP4) and managing deployments using Helm charts and Argo CD.
  • Experience with Nx monorepos and Nx Cloud for distributed task execution and build caching.
  • Familiarity with API gateway and edge technologies such as Spring Cloud Gateway, Akamai, and CloudFlare.
  • Experience with the GitHub API and building custom GitHub Apps to extend and automate developer workflows beyond standard GitHub Actions.
  • Experience implementing distributed tracing and telemetry with OpenTelemetry.
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments — shell scripting, process management, and troubleshooting at the OS level.
  • Experience managing secrets and dynamic credentials with HashiCorp Vault in a cloud-native environment.
  • Experience integrating container and dependency vulnerability scanning tools (e.g. Aqua Security, Snyk) as well as static code analysis tools (e.g. SonarQube) into CI/CD pipelines as part of a DevSecOps practice.
  • Experience working with AWS S3 for artifact storage, build caching, or deployment pipeline integration.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex infrastructure topics into clear terms for product owners and business stakeholders.
  • Experience writing automated tests (unit, integration, performance) and configuring testing frameworks (JUnit, Jest, Playwright) to run on CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, enabling development teams to deploy to production often with confidence and speed.
  • Develop and maintain the critical API gateway layer that enables teams to pilot and validate changes in production-like conditions before live traffic is routed to them — reducing risk on every release.
  • Build internal tooling and developer experience improvements that make it fast, safe, and intuitive for application teams to ship their changes with confidence.
  • Manage and optimize containerized workloads on OpenShift and Docker, ensuring platform reliability, scalability, and security across client-facing applications.
  • Partner with application development teams to embed DevOps best practices — automated testing, trunk-based development, infrastructure-as-code — from day one of every project.
  • Define and enforce platform standards for observability, integrating tools such as OpenTelemetry, Splunk, and Dynatrace so teams can detect and resolve incidents before clients notice them.
  • Identify and eliminate systemic bottlenecks in the software delivery lifecycle — measure cycle time, deployment frequency, and change failure rate, then act on what you find.
  • Configure tools such as Akamai and CloudFlare to harden and accelerate client-facing services.
  • Champion a culture of technical excellence on the team: lead blameless post-mortems, mentor developers on DevOps practices, and contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment where people do their best work.
