Senior Cloud and Platform Engineer

CallibrityCincinnati, OH
Hybrid

About The Position

Callibrity is a developer-owned and managed custom software development consulting company dedicated to creating quality software using modern technologies and adding unquestionable business value to companies across multiple industries and verticals. We are problem solvers who like a challenge and enjoy working with modern tech stacks. We offer an incredibly collaborative culture and enjoy solving complex problems with our clients. We are seeking a Senior Cloud and Platform Engineer to partner with a Principal Consultant to deliver an Azure architecture review for a long-standing financial services client. The Principal owns the architectural point of view and the client narrative. You own the hands-on technical work that makes that narrative defensible — the evidence behind the findings, the depth behind the recommendations, and the tangible artifacts that demonstrate Callibrity’s engineering posture during the engagement itself. This is a senior delivery role on a small, stable team. You will operate with significant autonomy on the streams of work directed your way and will be expected to surface findings, push back on assumptions, and bring your own point of view to the table.

Requirements

  • Eight or more years of full-stack engineering and platform modernization experience, with deep, hands-on specialization in cloud-native operations on Azure.
  • A track record of moving client teams from manual, portal-driven Azure operations to code-managed, repeatable platforms. Concrete examples of the patterns you put in place and the adoption you drove.
  • Strong working knowledge of Terraform, Azure DevOps pipelines, and common deployment-path patterns. Comfortable opening a client’s IaC repository and forming a defensible point of view on what is working and what is not.
  • Practical depth in Azure Policy and governance-as-code, including the trade-offs between guardrails and developer friction.
  • Hands-on experience with cost-management automation, tagging enforcement, and reporting in environments where finance and engineering both have a stake in the answer.
  • Working command of the observability stack: Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and the integration patterns that connect them to a SIEM.
  • Comfort with the developer-experience layer that makes a platform usable — internal portals, golden paths, self-service tooling — and a clear point of view on when those investments pay off.
  • Ability to take direction from a senior architect on what to investigate while operating independently on how to investigate it.
  • Written communication strong enough to draft report sections that need light editing rather than heavy rewriting.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience in regulated industries — financial services, insurance, or healthcare — and familiarity with the audit and compliance posture those environments require.
  • Experience standing up Port or another developer portal in a production setting.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or Azure Solutions Architect Associate).
  • Prior assessment or advisory experience, not only implementation experience. Comfort writing for a report rather than only for a runbook

Responsibilities

  • Run hands-on technical discovery across assigned domains — typically cost governance, observability, platform deployment, and management tooling — using Azure Resource Graph, Azure Policy compliance, Microsoft Cost Management, Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Entra reporting, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
  • Review the client’s existing Terraform footprint and common Azure DevOps deployment paths. Identify standardization opportunities, configuration drift risks, and the foundational moves required to mature toward a code-driven, team-owned platform.
  • Assess tagging standards and enforcement, automated alerts and reporting, and Reserved Instance and Savings Plan utilization. Propose practical cost-governance improvements that hold up as Azure adoption grows.
  • Evaluate the centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting strategy, including SIEM integration patterns, audit log retention posture, and the application telemetry surface exposed through Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
  • Draft the sections of the report tied to your streams of work — findings, recommendations, effort indications, and success-criteria tagging — to a quality bar that lets the Principal Consultant integrate them into the broader narrative with minimal rework.
  • Produce the tangible artifacts that Callibrity is known for during assessment engagements: working dashboards, reusable IaC modules, governance-as-code samples, or developer-experience prototypes where they accelerate the client’s ability to act on the recommendations.
  • Participate in stakeholder interviews and on-site working sessions. Bring engineering credibility to the conversation, not just note-taking.
