About The Position

As a Senior Clinical Psychologist with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, you will be a pivotal member of Interdisciplinary teams across the South East Region (Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, and Clonmel). The role focuses on supporting individuals living with an acquired brain injury to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives through person-centred care. You will conduct psychological assessments for current and prospective clients to develop personalised rehabilitation programmes. Working collaboratively with clients, their families, and interdisciplinary teams, you will provide compassionate guidance and clinical expertise to foster recovery, resilience, and connection. This is a specified purpose, full-time contract for 35 hours per week, with flexibility in work hours. The salary ranges from €93,192 to €102,910, depending on experience, and will be pro-rated for full-time hours.

Requirements

  • Full driving licence
  • Have a university degree or diploma (QQI level 8 equivalent) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject
  • Have an Irish post-graduate professional psychology qualification accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland in Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychology Or An equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction validated by the Department of Health
  • Demonstrate competence in working in the care group applied for (either 60 days or equivalent supervised clinical placements as part of the professional qualification; or 60 days or equivalent post-qualification supervised work experience with the care group applied for)
  • Applicants must have at least five years satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology, no more than three years of which was spent in gaining the postgraduate professional qualification and no less than two years fulltime spent in post qualification experience as a professional psychologist. Years in excess of permitted three years for completion of the post-graduate training or time not worked will not be taken into consideration when assessing the five years’ experience requirement

  • Post qualification experience of working with adults with an acquired brain injury or other neurological conditions
  • Experience in provisions of support using a Positive Behaviour Support approach
  • Experience in formal neuropsychological assessments and interventions with people with neurological or other physical diagnosis
  • Evidence of participation in continuous professional development
  • Knowledge of the relevant disability-related legislation and standards or practice
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • An ability to manage workload, perform under pressure and achieve deadlines

  • Deliver tailored psychological assessments, therapies, and interventions that support each client’s unique journey
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and colleagues to shape service planning and contribute to meaningful policy development
  • Share your expertise through training and mentoring, helping staff grow in line with ABI Ireland’s mission and values
  • Support residential services by guiding staff in implanting positive behaviour support plans and offering clinical inputs to enhance client wellbeing
  • Work closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure clients receive holistic, coordinated support
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to data collection that informs service development and quality improvement
