About The Position

The Senior Claims Assistant supports Claims Examiners with administrative tasks, helping ensure benefits are paid timely and claims are administered in compliance with state law. This role also mentors and trains less-experienced Claims Assistants.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 2 – 3+ years’ experience as a Claims Assistant or closely related experience required.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn enterprise resources planning (ERP) software.
  • Strong understanding of claims principles and practices.
  • Superior customer service, phone etiquette and time management skills.
  • Excellent skills with data entry, attention to detail and ability to prioritize assignments.
  • Must have the ability to: Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Use basic math skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Collaborate effectively with others to achieve team goals and foster a positive team environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment in executing work deliverables from written or verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers intermediate to advanced administrative support to Claims Examiners.
  • Contacts insured or other involved persons to obtain necessary information to process claims.
  • Documents conversations or information on appropriate enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • Stays current with diary tasks and procedural changes.
  • Provides training and mentoring to less-experienced Claims Assistants.
  • Organizes and works with assigned Claims Examiners and appropriate departments to enter, access, search and retrieve data.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Provides customer service by relaying information to insureds, claimants, vendors and any other relevant parties as requested by the Claims Examiner.
  • Processes claims related payments.
  • Assists Claims Examiner through claims resolution and related administrative projects.
  • Supports Claims Examiners in the preparation, processing and monitoring of payments.
  • Communicates pertinent claim information to the client, legal counsel, and other providers as well as internal claims staff.
  • Ensures documentation required to process claims is accurate and complete for auditing purposes.
  • Provides mentorship and training to less experienced Claim Assistants.
