About The Position

Proper Insurance, a Managing General Agent and division of SPG with full claims handling authority, provides commercial insurance designed for short-term rental properties. The Senior Claims Adjuster manages a caseload of property claims weighted toward complex coverage disputes, large losses, and litigated claims. The role works with a high degree of independence, serves as an authority on Proper’s property coverage forms, and mentors less-experienced adjusters, escalating only genuinely novel or precedent-setting issues.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of property claims adjusting experience, including demonstrated experience with coverage disputes, large losses, or litigated files.
  • Deep working knowledge of residential or short-term-rental-specific property coverage forms.
  • Advanced Xactimate proficiency, including custom macros and profiles and sketch tools.
  • Strong written communication skills and a track record of audit-ready documentation.
  • Demonstrated autonomy and sound judgment on complex claim decisions.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or peer-reviewing other adjusters.
  • Active adjuster license(s) as required by jurisdiction.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with short-term rental, habitational, or specialty commercial property lines.

Responsibilities

  • Independently analyze complex and disputed coverage scenarios across Proper’s short-term-rental property coverage forms.
  • Identify coverage gaps and exposures that less-experienced adjusters may miss.
  • Explain complex or unwelcome coverage determinations to insureds clearly and empathetically.
  • Manage a caseload weighted toward high-complexity, large-loss, and litigation files, including specialty files beyond the core diary when appropriate.
  • Make most claim decisions autonomously and escalate only genuinely novel or precedent-setting issues.
  • Build and validate advanced Xactimate estimates using custom macros, profiles, and sketch tools; provide peer review for less-tenured adjusters.
  • Serve as a point of contact for insureds navigating difficult or high-stakes claims, elevate the customer experience, and independently de-escalate disputes.
  • Model the communication standard expected of the team.
  • Create exemplary, defense-ready file documentation that clearly articulates coverage positions.
  • Maintain compliance and advise on emerging regulatory issues.
  • Investigate complex property claims and preserve subrogation rights.
  • Coach and mentor less-tenured adjusters on file handling, documentation, and difficult conversations.

  • Structured training, licensing support, and ongoing development opportunities.
  • Competitive pay with comprehensive health benefits, retirement savings matching, and company-paid life and disability plans.
  • Generous paid time off, paid parental leave, and a wellbeing program.
  • Collaborative, high-performing culture, community impact through HUB Gives, and room for career growth.
