About The Position

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer (Eng IV) with over ten years of experience and a Professional Engineer (PE) license for their Ontario office. This role is within the Public Works Practice Area and will focus on providing leadership, guiding business development, and managing projects primarily in the Inland Empire area. The position involves working on public works infrastructure projects from concept design through construction completion, including streets, storm drains, sewers, water improvements, and various analyses. The individual will coordinate with internal teams, sub-consultants, and junior staff, and provide construction administration support. This role also includes supporting new project development, including scopes of work, labor estimates, and schedules, with occasional direct client communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in California.
  • 10+ years of civil engineering design experience in Public Works.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel and Word software.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to present in a meeting.
  • Ability to design printed and digital engineering documents.
  • Ability to write clearly to communicate technical issues and design ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Coordinate with EITs, designers and drafters.
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration.
  • Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
  • Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting.
  • Prepare project documents (drawings and technical specifications) for permitting and bidding.
  • Provide construction administration support for contractor submittal reviews, contractor requests for information, review of contractor monthly invoices and provide recommendations for invoice approvals, participation in construction progress meetings, occasional site visits as necessary.
  • Provide support for the development of scopes of work, labor hour estimates, and project scheduling for new projects.
  • Communicate directly with clients on occasion as directed.
