About The Position

The Senior Civil Engineer functions as the Construction Services Engineer and is responsible for leading a team of field support specialists, the Structural Services Unit and the Finals Engineer. This team provides technical assistance to Construction field staff as well as Project Development personnel. The Construction Services team also provides high level technical reviews for project documents during development and works closely with Agency Project Development & Rail Design teams to resolve construction and contract development challenges. In addition, the Construction Services team develops and provides training for field staff during the Winter. The Construction Services Engineer reports directly to the Construction Engineer and is a permanent member of the Prequalification Committee. The incumbent is also responsible for delegated tasks such as reviewing and approving weekly progress payments to contractors, establishing and tracking Construction's annual budget, as well as overseeing updates to process manuals and field guidance documents. Additionally, active participation in broader process improvement initiatives for the Construction Section, the Construction and Materials Bureau and the Highway Division is an expectation of incumbent. In addition to possessing strong written and verbal communication skills, qualified candidates should be highly organized and have experience leading teams. Working knowledge of VTrans document management and processing systems such as Doc Express, Exevision, and Sharepoint is preferred.

Responsibilities
