About The Position

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer – Aviation to join our Aviation Team in Knoxville, TN. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced project managers, airport sponsors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver airside, landside, and aviation facility projects. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping practical, efficient solutions that align with operational goals, safety standards, and evolving industry requirements—giving you the chance to influence how critical infrastructure is designed, built, and sustained. Civil site engineers are encouraged to apply. We welcome candidates with backgrounds in land development, municipal engineering, transportation, roadway, and other civil infrastructure disciplines who are interested in applying their expertise to aviation projects. Previous aviation experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required
• Minimum of 10 years progressive engineering experience in civil site design, land development, municipal infrastructure, transportation, aviation, or other horizontal infrastructure projects required
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Strong experience designing site grading, drainage, utilities, roadway, pavement, and other civil infrastructure systems
• Expert knowledge of the respective engineering discipline with a proven ability to apply best practices
• Proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.)
• Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures, business practices, and engineering laws
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred
• Experience with FAA standards preferred
• Participation in professional engineering societies/organizations preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical execution of complex civil engineering projects from planning and design through construction, preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, and specifications
• Design and oversee civil infrastructure projects including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, pavements, and site development for aviation facilities such as airports, terminals, airfields, and support facilities
• Serve as a technical leader, providing innovative engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and client standards
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating with planners, architects, engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects on schedule and within budget
• Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance, design reviews, and professional development support
• Support business development by preparing technical proposals, participating in client meetings, and delivering presentations to clients and regulatory agencies
