About The Position

The Department of City Planning (DCP) plans for the future of New York City, working to create thriving and dynamic neighborhoods with access to housing and jobs, resilient infrastructure, and a vibrant public realm. DCP supports the City Planning Commission in its annual review of hundreds of land use applications. The Department also advises on citywide strategic and capital planning, analyzes data, conducts policy analysis, and creates open data and civic engagement tools. The new Citywide Address Assignment Team (CAAT) is responsible for supporting all of the official address assignments and verifications to new and existing buildings and other structures across the five boroughs, as well as maintaining a database of all officially assigned addresses for New York City. The division is comprised of a team with specialties in executing address assignment functions such as processing address requests, coordinating with other agencies and external partners, disseminating relevant information to various stakeholders, maintaining digital records for all officially assigned addresses in the five boroughs, and providing customer service support for property owners. This team is responsible for executing these functions and services to ensure accuracy and efficiency in address assignment and verification for buildings and other structures, which is integral to creating an efficient process for residential and commercial construction, infrastructure needs, effective emergency management, and accurate mail delivery services. To Additionally, the team will issue formal notices for non-compliance or misuse of official address assignments. DCP is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Citywide Address Assignment Technician for its Citywide Address Assignment Team (CAAT). The Senior Citywide Address Assignment Technician role will support the team’s work of receiving and processing address requests, disseminating relevant information to various stakeholders, providing customer service support to constituents, and coordinating with other City agencies and entities. The ideal candidate is a generalist who is comfortable managing address requests for highly complex developments and is comfortable providing in-depth customer service support to City residents and developers.

Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Execute address assignment functions including for highly complex developments where accuracy and attention to detail are central to effective delivery
  • Provide customer service support to constituents, homeowners, developers, agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Research, analyze, validate, correct, maintain and update geographic data files using related spatial data, imagery, and other resources
  • Perform quality assurance of data files
  • Initiate, document and innovate work procedures and methodologies
  • Execute geographic processing programs, coordinate data releases, and publish datasets
  • Lead communication with customer/client/user requests
  • Act as data liaison to other city agencies
