About The Position

The Town of Andover values the skills and knowledge of its senior residents and offers the Senior Citizen Residential Property Tax Work-Off Program (SCRPT). This program allows seniors to contribute their skills to the community in exchange for a tax abatement on their property taxes. The program involves coordination between various town departments, a program coordinator, the accounting office, the assessor's office, and the treasurer's office. The maximum allowable abatement is $1,100. The FY28 program officially begins on November 16th, but placements will not begin until eligibility is determined. Applications, including CORI pages and a copy of a government-issued ID, must be mailed to the Robb Center by November 15, 2026. A mandatory informational meeting for new participants will be hosted at the Robb Center.

Requirements

  • Age 60+
  • Must be the assessed owner of the property on which the tax is abated.
  • Property must be primary residence of applicant.
  • No income guidelines for first qualified owner.
  • No current town/school employees are eligible (full time, part time, contract, substitute, or board appointees).
  • Applicants must be up to date on all payments to the Town of Andover.
  • Second qualifying owner may earn exemption if they meet the need requirements (Single: $46,950, Married: $63,450/household).
  • Submit completed and signed application and CORI pages.
  • Enclose a copy of your license or other government issued ID.
  • Attend informational meeting with Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Complete timesheet and turn in to the Center on a monthly basis with appropriate supervisor’s authorization signature.

Responsibilities

  • Share skills in service to the community.
  • Attend a mandatory informational meeting.
  • Contact the SCRPT Program Coordinator to discuss placement.
  • Submit application to the Center by the posted deadline.
  • Commit to designated hours of service within the specified time frame.
  • Notify the SCRPT Program Coordinator and work site supervisor of schedule changes and absences.
  • Complete timesheet and turn it in to the Center on a monthly basis with appropriate supervisor’s authorization signature.
  • Notify SCRPT Program Coordinator of any changes which affect eligibility, i.e. sale of property, inability to complete program requirements.
