About The Position

XNRGY Climate Systems is seeking a Senior Chiller Testing Lead Technician – Factory Commissioning to join their growing factory operations team in Mesa, Arizona. This senior-level technical leadership position is responsible for leading factory testing and commissioning activities for industrial chiller systems prior to customer shipment. The role involves ensuring equipment is tested safely, consistently, and in accordance with defined procedures, while providing technical leadership, troubleshooting expertise, and mentorship in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Senior Chiller Testing Lead Technician will lead and execute pre-functional and End-of-Line (EOL) testing activities, acting as the technical lead for factory testing operations and collaborating with Manufacturing, Engineering, Controls, Quality, and Commissioning teams to validate equipment performance, identify deficiencies, support corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of HVAC, refrigeration, industrial equipment testing, or commissioning experience.
  • Strong understanding of industrial chiller systems.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles and components.
  • Experience with electrical systems and VFD operation.
  • Experience with hydronic systems and flow verification.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, control diagrams, and mechanical layouts.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical mentoring skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong documentation discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Factory commissioning or manufacturing test operations experience.
  • Experience with PLC/HMI systems.
  • Familiarity with Modbus/BACnet communications.
  • Experience with oil-less compressor technologies.
  • Experience using factory load bank testing systems.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical or data center cooling applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of pre-functional and End-of-Line (EOL) testing of industrial chiller systems.
  • Operate and monitor chillers under various load conditions using load banks and factory test infrastructure.
  • Verify operation of compressors and refrigeration circuits, pumps, valves and hydronic systems, condenser systems and fan assemblies, VFDs, motors and electrical systems, and safety devices, interlocks and flow verification devices.
  • Validate unit performance including temperatures, pressures, flow rates, compressor staging, stability, and operational sequences.
  • Interface with PLC/HMI systems to monitor and validate operation.
  • Verify sensors, instrumentation, and field devices function correctly.
  • Support verification of Modbus/BACnet communications where applicable.
  • Confirm alarm functionality and sequence responses.
  • Assist with controls-related troubleshooting and operational validation.
  • Lead first-level troubleshooting of mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and controls-related issues.
  • Identify and document deficiencies discovered during testing.
  • Coordinate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to support corrective actions.
  • Support root cause analysis and validation of repairs and rework activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to testing technicians and operators.
  • Complete and maintain commissioning documentation, test records, and reports.
  • Ensure testing activities are performed in accordance with controlled procedures and standards.
  • Maintain clear documentation of failures, corrective actions, repairs, rework, and retesting activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of test procedures, execution methods, and reporting tools.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices within the testing environment.
  • Maintain safe operation around high-voltage equipment, pressurized refrigeration systems, rotating machinery, and hydronic test systems.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions immediately.
