About The Position

The Materials Laboratory is part of the Materials & Process Engineering department focused on product support across Collins Aerospace. The Lab Technician will provide laboratory support to M&PE and report to the Analytical Lab Services Manager. This position is responsible for conducting specific procedures and tests within the laboratory requiring the use of applied knowledge and practical skills learned from on-the-job experience. This position assists with, and occasionally performs, specialized and non-routine tests, maintaining accurate records of such work. The Lab Technician performs assigned work with other technicians to primarily support onsite operations and Engineering investigations.

Requirements

  • Typically requires HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Analytical mindset and ability to troubleshoot
  • Familiarity of safety practices in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with attention to detail, and accurately maintain records and files

Responsibilities

  • Analyze fluid properties of oils, fuels, and solvents using multiple analytical techniques and instrumentation.
  • Perform automated and manual particle counting
  • Prepare and analyze debris recovered from aerospace filter elements
  • Determine thermal properties of aerospace polymers via DSC and DMA analysis
  • Prepare analysis results in reports and communicating to personnel
  • Ensure on-time delivery of assigned work and projects
  • Perform activities related to general lab operations including record keeping, 5S, safety inspections, and maintaining a stock of supplies and consumables.
