About The Position

Orlando Health Physician Associates is one of the largest primary care provider (PCP) groups in Central Florida, comprising the PCP network of the Orlando Health Medical Group. With over 225 providers, they deliver care in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and podiatry. Their PCPs offer care for all ages and stages, from childhood development to chronic disease management and aging concerns. They have numerous convenient locations across Central Florida, offering easy access to quality primary care, including same-day, next-day, and virtual appointments. Orlando Health Physician Associates is part of the Orlando Health system, which includes award-winning hospitals, specialty institutes, urgent care centers, primary care practices, and outpatient facilities across Florida, Central Alabama, and Puerto Rico. The Senior Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. They act as a leader to help drive quality care and serve as a mentor for professional practice.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the experience section) is required.
Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification
Maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or by American Allied Health (AAH).
Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.

Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
Enter medication, laboratory and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
Assists the physician or APP by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants. Acts as preceptor and/or oversees assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
Supports and helps develop quality strategies within the practice.
Helps to facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
Collaborates with the clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and have the ability to assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients on his or her assigned department and/or unit.
Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Practices the efficient use of supplies.
Assists business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
