About The Position

The Calvert County Department of Community Resources, Office on Aging, is seeking a dependable and motivated Senior Center Facilities and Operations Technician to support daily operations at County senior centers by performing facility maintenance, custodial services, grounds upkeep, equipment setup, and general operational support to ensure safe, clean, and welcoming environments for older adults and community programs. Performs semi-skilled facilities maintenance and operational support work for County senior centers to ensure buildings, equipment, and program spaces are safe, functional, and ready for daily use. The work includes routine maintenance and repairs, custodial and grounds support, equipment setup and breakdown for programs, and transport of supplies and materials between locations. The employee exercises independent judgment in handling recurring maintenance tasks and prioritizing daily work, while coordinating with supervisors on major repairs, budget-related issues, or services requiring outside vendors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, custodial work, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Operation of County-owned vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine building maintenance and minor repairs including carpentry, plumbing, and general facility upkeep to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Inspects facilities and equipment regularly to identify maintenance needs and address issues or report conditions requiring further action.
  • Determines appropriate methods to complete routine repairs and maintenance tasks using sound judgment and established practices.
  • Coordinates with internal staff to support program operations and facility readiness.
  • Sets up and breaks down rooms for programs, meetings, and special events, including arranging furniture, equipment, and materials to meet program requirements.
  • Performs custodial duties such as cleaning, scrubbing, mopping, floor care, and waste removal to maintain sanitary and orderly conditions throughout the facility and surrounding areas.
  • Maintains grounds and exterior areas by sweeping walkways, removing litter, and supporting general site upkeep.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance on furniture, fixtures, and fitness and medical equipment.
  • Assists with preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning vents, maintaining drains, and replacing basic building components.
  • Transports equipment, materials, and supplies between senior center locations using a County vehicle.
  • Works with approved vendors and County maintenance personnel to address issues beyond routine maintenance, with supervisory approval.
  • Secures facilities by locking doors and ensuring building safety procedures are followed.
  • Monitors supply levels and obtains necessary materials through approved purchasing processes.
  • Performs related duties as required.
