About The Position

Work involves performing a variety of in-person administrative, programming, and professional duties in the Green Acres / Young at Heart Senior Center and the City of Fairfax Department of Parks and Recreation. Under direction of the Recreation Manager and the Assistant Senior Center Manager, performs varied assignments requiring thorough knowledge of department’s goals and objectives. Exercises independent judgment and organizational skills in performance of position responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • An interest or passion for working with senior adults and/or in a recreation setting.
  • Experience working with older adults, recreation programs, customer service, or community services.
  • Must pass a criminal background check before starting work.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe food handler certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Will be trained on ActiveNet registration and facility reservation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with various programs and events in-person at the Green Acres Senior Center.
  • Assisting management in programming and event development, execution, and implementation.
  • Assist Center members in registering for programs, leading group activities, and maintain a safe environment for all members during operating hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Assists the Senior Center Manager in the implementing and delivery of the Senior Center’s daily programs, and events.
  • Serve as a chaperone on senior day trips as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation, creation, and distribution promotional, organizational, and marketing materials (i.e. flyers, newsletters, brochures, etc.).
  • Processes registrations and payment for Senior Center programs, activities, and events.
  • Responds to customer requests and complaints (in person or by phone) and attempts to resolve them or directs customers to appropriate staff.
  • Processes and maintains Senior Center membership records.
  • Maintains a friendly atmosphere in the Senior Center and assists both members and potential members in finding services and programs.
  • May be asked to assist with Parks and Recreation Department’s special projects and events.
