About The Position

This Senior Category Manager position plays a crucial role in generating value by negotiating pricing discounts, protecting Mayo Clinic from various risks, and potentially leading, mentoring, and collaborating within Supply Chain Management (SCM) work units. Work assignments are monitored by team leaders based on business needs, and this position may serve on multiple teams, potentially leading medium or higher risk teams or projects, providing day-to-day oversight for personnel and projects. The role requires engaging and advising departmental leadership to understand sourcing needs, maintaining high standards of customer service, and leading the day-to-day management of contracting activities and personnel. The individual will independently negotiate medium-to-higher complexity and risk contracts, develop presentations, and, if in a team leader role, serve as a Subject Matter Expert, mentor, and trainer, while also introducing process improvements and eliminating workflow inefficiencies. Special projects may also be assigned. The selection process may include an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, including F-1 STEM OPT extension. It is a hybrid position requiring candidates to be located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus for occasional on-site expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of supply chain management experience or experience associated with supply chain activities in other relevant roles such as project management, contracting, business agreement analysis and negotiation, nursing or other related clinical positions, technology or healthcare management.
  • Skills or activities such as managing third party service providers, ongoing clinical or operational engagement that interfaces with suppliers, product selection, coordination of conversion of products and services, or managing quotes or bids.

  • Advanced academic degree in business administration, healthcare management, finance, law or a related field.
  • Some experience relevant to the market or responsibilities of teams or role (e.g. Capital equipment, Pharmacy, IT) that will initially be supported is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Generates value through negotiating pricing discounts and protecting Mayo Clinic from various types of risk.
  • May lead, mentor, and collaborate in work units within SCM.
  • Work will be assigned and monitored by team leaders based upon current business needs.
  • May serve on multiple teams.
  • May lead medium or higher risk teams or projects as directed.
  • When in a leadership role, expected to provide day-to-day oversight for personnel and projects.
  • Engage and advise departmental leadership and management throughout a project lifecycle to understand sourcing needs, opportunities, and priorities.
  • Maintain the highest standards of customer service throughout the project, communicating high-level project status, obtaining critical decisions and guidance, and ensuring continuous organizational commitment.
  • Provides leadership for the day-to-day management of contracting activities and personnel.
  • Independently negotiates medium-to-higher complexity and medium-to-higher risk contracts.
  • Develop presentations for report outs, including leading the creation of relevant visual presentation materials, and preparing written narrative as needed.
  • If in a team leader role, serve as Subject Matter Expert for team, seek ways to provide mentoring and training, introduce process improvements and eliminate work-flow inefficiencies.
  • Performs other special projects as assigned.
