Senior Category Manager, Metals & Raw Materials

Crusoe•Arvada, CO
•$120,000 - $145,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Category Manager, Metals & Raw Materials owns Crusoe’s foundational spend categories at the strategic level. The role focuses on establishing upstream control over raw material inputs and metal fabrication—including structural carbon and stainless steel, sheet metal, aluminum extrusion, copper busbars, and specialized modular enclosures—while integrating critical electrical balance-of-plant components such as switchgear, Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), transformers, and cable/wire. The position operates across Crusoe’s manufacturing and deployment hubs, including Arvada, Brighton, Tulsa, and Ponchatoula, connecting global commodity markets with finished sub-assemblies. It combines commodity-market and financial analysis with technical supplier vetting and commercial contracting. The role is onsite at Crusoe’s Arvada, Colorado location.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of dedicated strategic sourcing, supply chain, or category management experience focused primarily on raw metals, structural steel, sheet metal fabrication, or heavy mechanical equipment, with exposure to industrial electrical systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Working understanding of metal alloy specifications, mill test reports, metal forming processes, welding and finishing standards, and raw-material, conversion, and logistics cost breakdowns.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), structural weld symbols, and electrical balance-of-plant schematics; baseline familiarity with NEC and UL standards.
  • Hands-on experience structuring comprehensive MSAs and raw material indexation agreements, and redlining complex commercial terms.
  • Advanced proficiency in total cost of ownership modeling, make/buy trade studies, supplier scorecarding, and formal RFP/RFQ execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience managing raw metal service center agreements, mill-direct reservation programs, or toll-processing arrangements.
  • Background auditing metal fabrication shops, CNC machining cells, or switchgear manufacturing plants.
  • Hands-on ERP/MRP experience with Acumatica, NetSuite, or SAP, and expertise structuring complex multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Direct experience in data center infrastructure, modular enclosures, energy generation, or high-power industrial assets.

Responsibilities

  • Track global indices and cost drivers for base and refined metals, and implement should-cost models, scrap-clawback clauses, and index-based pricing mechanisms.
  • Own the Approved Vendor List for raw material distributors, metal service centers, and custom contract fabricators; conduct shop-floor capability audits against engineering specifications.
  • Develop and govern a 12–24 month integrated category roadmap for metals and electrical balance-of-plant components, balancing supply resilience and commercial leverage.
  • Develop make, buy, and tolling strategies, including evaluation of mill-direct material purchases for consigned processing versus turnkey assemblies.
  • Draft, structure, and negotiate Master Supply Agreements, Service Level Agreements, and long-term reservation agreements; redline buyer-adverse commercial terms.
  • Maintain a category risk register covering single-source exposures, geopolitical and tariff risks, mill outage liabilities, and extended lead-time bottlenecks; execute dual-sourcing roadmaps.
  • Partner with Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineering and Production on total-cost-of-ownership analysis and value engineering, including material substitutions that preserve performance and integrity.
  • Develop pricing schedules, rebate tiers, and lead-time matrices to support Material Planners and Tactical Buyers in executing ERP release orders.
