About The Position

The Cardiac Cath & EP Lab at Banner Heart Hospital provides diagnostic and interventional Cardiac and Electrophysiology procedures to the adult patient population. With 5 Cardiac Cath rooms and 3 Electrophysiology rooms, we are a full-service cardiovascular lab providing minimally invasive care for coronary, peripheral, electrophysiology and structural heart patients. As a Special Procedures Technologist, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that performs 11,000 procedures a year serving approximately 5,900 patients. The technologist is an integral part of the Cath lab team. Our Cardiovascular Techs are responsible for many duties, including medical imaging responsibilities, scrubbing, circulating and monitoring during the procedure. Located next to Banner Baywood Medical Center in east Mesa, Arizona, Banner Heart Hospital specializes in providing the most advanced cardiovascular care in an environment of clinical excellence, compassion and healing. Our facility includes a 28 bed cardiovascular intensive care unit that specialized in the recovery of surgical patients, cardiogenic shock, and CRRT. Our 60 bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit specializes in fast-paced procedural recovery and our 23 bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit specializes in surgical recovery. Our space also includes two endovascular suites, six OR suites, six cardiac Cath labs, and three electrophysiology labs.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Cardiovascular Invasive program or equivalent experience.
  • Requires ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology (RT) as required by state law.
  • Licensure and/or certification(s) as required by state regulatory agency, if applicable.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required where applicable.
  • Requires Post primary certifications with minimum of 5 years’ Cath Lab, Electrophysiology (EP) or equivalent experience OR 7 years Cath Lab, EP or equivalent with at least 3 years in a high acuity/structural heart or most complex interventions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in high acuity/structural heart or most complex interventions.
  • Proficient in various Cath Lab procedures and techniques.
  • The position requires the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
  • The position requires the ability to respond quickly to the needs of the health care staff and patient.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a physician, assists in performing all diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures including all types of structural heart and hemodynamic support cases and/or complex EP cases to includes case types such as advanced cardiac procedures such as TAVR, TMVR, Mitra Clip, Impella 5.0, Tandem, ECMO and pediatric specialty) to treat heart disease in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs/reviews a baseline patient evaluation as defined by scope of practice and facility.
  • Evaluates patients’ response to diagnosis, interventional maneuvers and medications during procedures.
  • In EP Specialty, demonstrates knowledge, ability and skill to support complex EP cases (e.g. epicardial AF and VT ablations, stereotaxis, bipolar, venous alcohol ablations, leadless pacemaker).
  • Operates all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance in area of operation.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
  • Adheres to all safety policies.
  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge of procedures and techniques, i.e. knowledge of normal and abnormal ECG rhythms and/or lead changes, various hemodynamic values, normal and abnormal pressures, ST elevation/depression.
  • Monitors and records ECG and pressure waves during the procedures.
  • Provides other aspects of patient care as needed.
  • Demonstrates the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques as well as universal precautions throughout the procedure.
  • Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing.
  • Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • May participate in employee performance assessments when serving as a preceptor.
  • Participates in staff development, orientation, education and evaluation of clinical competencies when serving as a mentor or preceptor as assigned.
  • Accountable for the ethical, legal and professional responsibilities related to the score of practice.
  • This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
