About The Position

Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the exteriors discipline, the Senior Engineer is responsible to lead the 3DX CAD and engineering activities relating to the design and development of the vehicle exterior system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers.

Requirements

  • BSME
  • 10+ years CAD engineering
  • Experience in Plastic Injection molding design and development
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with global teams
  • Experience in launching a complete vehicle
  • Experience in design release and testing of components and assemblies
  • Experience in castings, ferrous and non-ferrous materials
  • Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred
  • Professional Communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer
  • May require local, domestic, and international travel – less than 15% domestic + international

  • Experience in injection molding plastic process

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth of the engineering team
  • Lead the complete development and release of CATIA V6/SDX data and part designs
  • Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase
  • Develop the CAD technical solutions required for product and decisions required
  • Primary interface to the Customer Engineering and Program Management Community
  • Provide design and development direction to CAE department for analysis
  • Support Launch activities at customer assembly plants and supplier facilities
  • Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems
  • Support the project team(s) in achieving cost and timing deliverable milestones
  • Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development
  • Lead the development of the RFQ / Spec Books for supplier selection process
  • Facilitate and Lead Product Design Review meetings
  • Be responsible for designs meeting the project performance and cost targets
  • Understand and stay current on market region regulations, FMVSS, ECE, CNCA/GB, etc.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
  • Collaborate with the design studio to assure product appearance harmony
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Development group on DFMEA / DVP / Validation
  • Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
  • Collaborate with the other project GTAs
  • Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions
  • Ensure cooperation with project management
  • Develop and build strong relationships with customers and suppliers
  • Develop and build strong relationships across the Global Engineering Groups
  • Secure knowledge of development tools within the group
  • Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations
  • Escalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members
