About The Position

This role is for a Senior Buyer within Hatch’s Project Delivery Group (PDG), a dynamic and globally integrated team focused on world-class projects, sustainable studies, asset development, and operations. The Senior Buyer is crucial for ensuring the timely procurement and delivery of project materials and equipment, collaborating with engineering and procurement teams throughout the entire project lifecycle. This is a 12-month hourly contract position requiring onsite presence 5 days per week.

Requirements

  • Relevant technical or trade qualification
  • 12–18+ years of experience in procurement/buying roles
  • Proven experience in local and international procurement environments
  • Experience working on large or complex engineering/construction projects
  • Strong technical aptitude with knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, and supply chains
  • Solid understanding of procurement, contracting, and project execution methodologies
  • Familiarity with ISO standards (ISO 9000, ISO 19011)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong client-focused mindset with a results-driven approach

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with systems such as SmartPlant (or similar) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead purchasing activities for project materials and equipment, ensuring alignment with project schedule, cost, and quality objectives
  • Manage the full procurement lifecycle, including purchase order formation, award, administration, and close-out (local and international)
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies, procedures, and documentation under the guidance of the Project Procurement Manager
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and mentorship to junior buyers
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure technical and commercial alignment in bid documentation
  • Manage end-to-end tendering process including bidder prequalification, bid preparation, and issuance
  • Coordinate bidder communications, clarifications, and addenda
  • Lead bid openings, evaluations, and award recommendations
  • Ensure integrity and compliance throughout the tendering and contracting process
  • Facilitate purchase order kick-off meetings and vendor alignment
  • Oversee contract changes, claims, and payment validation processes
  • Support expediting activities, ensuring timely delivery of materials, equipment, and documentation
  • Coordinate with quality, logistics, and expediting teams to meet project schedules and Incoterms requirements
  • Ensure proper close-out of all purchase orders in accordance with project procedures
  • Maintain accurate procurement reporting and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation (taxation, customs, import/export)
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to proactively resolve issues and prevent delays
