About The Position

ICMA is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to serve as the organization's primary resource for data collection, analysis, and reporting across digital marketing, association operations, the association management system (AMS), and research initiatives. This role transforms data from multiple platforms into actionable insights - supporting campaign performance, membership intelligence, executive decision-making, and organizational research. The selected candidate must be willing to commute to our state-of-the-art headquarters on a regular basis, which is conveniently located near Union Station and Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Information Systems, Marketing, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in data analytics or similar role (collecting, organizing, and analyzing datasets to inform agency operations and reporting) and managing digital platforms and applications.
  • Proficiency in core data analysis tools including Google Analytics, Tableau or Power BI, SQL, and Excel.
  • Experience querying and reporting from an AMS or CRM platform and working with email marketing platforms (e.g., Informz, HubSpot, Mailchimp, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and performance metrics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex data clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data, identify trends, and provide insights.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills with Google Analytics, CRM systems, SQL, and Excel for data analysis.
  • Data Management Practices and Visualization: Proficient in data management practices such as collecting, organizing, analyzing, and maintaining datasets to support decision-making and reporting requirements. Experience creating dashboards and visual reports using tools like Tableau, Power BI.
  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy in data analysis and reporting, with a focus on data quality.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills with the ability to translate data insights for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience analyzing trends and performance variations across U.S. and international regions to inform marketing strategy and regional tactics.
  • Experience with A/B testing, including test design, analysis, and translating results into actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud); Higher Logic Informz a plus.
  • Familiarity with AMS or CRM platforms (e.g., NetForum, iMIS, Fonteva, Salesforce, YourMembership, MemberSuite, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of SEO/SEM metrics, UX indicators (bounce rates, user flow), and campaign tracking best practices (UTM tagging, Google Tag Manager).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Microsoft Reporting Services, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
  • Build and maintain database views and stored procedures to support reporting accuracy and data quality.
  • Integrate data from various sources - including AMS, CRM, event registration, email, web, and paid media - into unified reporting views.
  • Maintain documentation for data definitions, reporting methodologies, and data sources to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting and data query requests from staff across departments in a timely manner.
  • Extract, analyze, and report on AMS data to support membership, program, event, and revenue reporting for staff, leadership, and the board.
  • Track membership trends - including acquisition, retention, renewal rates, and engagement patterns - and develop reports that identify at-risk members, lapsed segments, and high-potential prospects to support recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Partner with operations staff to resolve data issues, ensure consistent field usage, and identify opportunities to leverage AMS data more effectively across departments.
  • Support the information technology team in data migration, audits, and cleanup initiatives as needed.
  • Track and analyze performance across all digital channels - PPC, display, email, social media, and web - reporting on KPIs including conversion rates, ROAS, engagement, reach, and follower growth.
  • Build and maintain dashboards; conduct A/B testing and funnel analysis to optimize campaign structure, keyword opportunities, and audience targeting.
  • Monitor website traffic and user behavior; benchmark brand and social performance against peers; identify audience segmentation opportunities.
  • Provide early warning tracking on email performance (opt-outs, deliverability, engagement trends) and ensure data accuracy across all marketing platforms.
  • Support data needs of innovation and research team as needed.
  • Integrate survey and other research data into ICMA's overall business intelligence processes.
  • Meet with internal stakeholders to identify BI needs and deliver reporting solutions that produce actionable information for operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Support tracking and reporting on the organization's strategic roadmap, including progress against goals, milestones, and performance indicators for leadership and board reporting.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and emerging patterns in organizational data and proactively communicate findings to relevant teams.
  • Assist in budget development and tracking program-related income and expenses.
  • Collaborate with internal and external developers to maintain and improve data-related applications and reporting infrastructure.
