About The Position

Philo is seeking a Senior Business Insights Analyst to drive better, faster decision-making through rigorous analysis, trusted metrics, and strong cross-functional partnerships. This high-impact individual contributor role involves owning recurring KPI reporting, tackling ambiguous ad-hoc questions, and presenting clear, actionable recommendations to senior stakeholders. The analyst will serve as a strategic partner across various business areas, with a deep focus on billing and subscription analytics, including trial conversion, activation, renewals, churn, reactivation, plan migration, add-on behavior, pricing and packaging performance, refunds, failed payments, and direct vs. partner billing experiences. The role also supports Finance, Product, Growth, Content, and Customer Experience teams with insights to understand business health, identify operational and product levers for improvement, and enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate possesses analytical depth, business fluency, crisp communication, and a high standard for data quality, proactively refining questions and framing decisions.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in business insights, analytics, strategy analytics, finance analytics, business intelligence, or a closely related function.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large-scale behavioral, subscription, billing, financial, or operational data sets.
  • Strong experience building data visualizations, dashboards, and self-serve reporting environments in BI tools such as Mode, Omni, Tableau, Looker, etc.
  • A proven track record of translating vague business questions into clear analyses, sharp recommendations, and polished decision-ready narratives and presentations.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Strong analytical fundamentals across cohort analysis, funnel analysis, segmentation, retention and churn analysis, trend analysis, KPI design, forecasting support, anomaly detection, and practical experimentation or quasi-experimental measurement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior stakeholders with different levels of technical fluency.
  • Strong stakeholder partnership skills and the ability to influence across Product, Finance, Marketing, Content, Operations, and technical teams.
  • A strong sense of ownership and prioritization: you can manage competing requests, separate urgent from important, and independently drive work forward.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in subscription, streaming, media, entertainment, ad-supported products, or another event-rich consumer business.
  • Experience using Python or R for deeper ad-hoc analysis, automation, or statistical workflows; our team primarily uses Python, so candidates should be comfortable working in Python or willing to ramp up
  • Deep familiarity with subscription business metrics such as trials, conversion, churn, retention, winback, LTV, plan mix, and add-on attach.
  • Experience with billing, payments, dunning or retry flows, refunds and credits, and direct or partner-billing analytics.
  • Experience with content, engagement, lifecycle marketing, or free-to-paid funnel analytics in a consumer product environment.
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms and event-tracking environments such as Snowflake, dbt, Segment, Avo, GrowthBook, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the core business scorecards, dashboards, and ad-hoc analyses leaders use to monitor subscriber growth, revenue, billing health, retention, engagement, content performance, and monetization trends.
  • Translate ambiguous questions from stakeholders into structured analytical plans, clear findings, and actionable recommendations that inform real decisions.
  • Build deep expertise in Philo's billing and subscription ecosystem, including trials, conversion, renewals, churn, reactivation, plan migration, add-on attach, refunds, credits, failed payments, involuntary churn, and direct vs. partner billing flows.
  • Identify the operational and product levers that improve subscriber health, reduce friction, and strengthen revenue retention across the lifecycle.
  • Partner with Growth and Lifecycle Marketing on acquisition quality, funnel performance, cohort health, promotional effectiveness, winback programs, and LTV/CAC context.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science on customer journey analysis, feature adoption, experimentation readouts, and insight generation across the viewing and account experience.
  • Partner with Content, Programming, and Marketing to understand which channels, titles, and viewing patterns drive acquisition, engagement, retention, upsell, and free-to-paid conversion opportunities.
  • Support customer-facing and operational teams with insights into support contact drivers, account issues, billing friction, and subscriber pain points where analytical clarity can improve the customer experience.
  • Build executive-ready materials that connect numbers to narrative, synthesize tradeoffs, and help technical and non-technical stakeholders make decisions with confidence.
  • Improve the quality and trustworthiness of business data by partnering with analytics engineering and data engineering on instrumentation, metric governance, source-of-truth logic, and data quality issues.
  • Help raise the analytical bar across the organization through clear documentation, thoughtful prioritization, and a pragmatic balance of speed and rigor.
