About The Position

We are looking for a talented and motivated Senior Business Data Analyst to join the Finance Insights and Technology Engagement (FITE) team. You will be working with various teams and stakeholders to foster relationships, understand requirements, and use a vast array of tools to deliver tech-based solutions. You will also rely on a creative mind and be able to think outside of the box. The ability to communicate and present to various levels within the business and to external partners is of utmost importance. A strong knowledge of SQL is required, as well as working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Python. Please note our hybrid work policy is 4 days in office at 1 President’s Choice Circle in Brampton.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years related work experience in a similar role.
  • University degree or post-secondary education in Finance, Business, Math/Statistics, Analytics or other relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of database applications such Google BigQuery, MS SQL Server and Teradata.
  • Advanced level SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and performance tuning.
  • Working Experience with Application Tools such as SAS, Python, Gitlab, etc.
  • Foundational knowledge of data governance, predictive analytics, AI and modelling.
  • Familiarity with other GCP services such as Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Dataflow, Composer (Airflow), or Cloud Functions.
  • Familiarity with and/or exposure to BI Tools such as MicroStrategy, Power BI, Tableau, and financial systems and processes etc.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and proven capability to drive insights from data and analytics.
  • Ability to self-organize multiple tasks well and to complete them on time with a clear focus on quantitative and/or qualitative results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to “think outside the box”.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with SAP S4 (or similar ERP systems) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively partner with Finance stakeholders to identify, analyze, and translate their Business Intelligence needs into strategic solutions, delivering timely and accurate insights.
  • Develop insightful reports, dashboards, and analytical models from extensive financial data using MicroStrategy, Power Platform, and Excel, deliver data-driven solutions to critical business challenges.
  • Drive successful project delivery by expertly managing all phases from inception to completion encompassing requirement gathering, project scoping, effort estimation, risk mitigation strategies, progress tracking, and critical issue escalation.
  • Drive technical excellence by actively facilitating code and data design reviews with both internal team members and Loblaw Technology counterparts.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive, accurate documentation of team processes, methodologies, and analytical findings, ensuring clarity for both technical and non-technical stakeholders and preserving institutional knowledge.
  • Act as a technical liaison between Finance and Technology teams to bridge gap between business finance and technical capabilities in data management, reporting and analytics.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize large-scale SQL queries (e.g., in Google BigQuery, Teradata) for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) to support financial reporting and analysis.
  • Design, build, and enhance Python and VBA scripts to automate data transformation, validation, and reporting processes to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy.
  • Perform root cause analysis on data discrepancies and system issues impacting financial data integrity, proposing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participate in weekly huddles and present project updates to senior leadership during team meetings.
