About The Position

Under general supervision, conducts general maintenance and repairs on County buildings and facilities, performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance on plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC systems and related equipment. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks related to building functions and structures including in secured areas. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

Requirements

Associate's degree from an accredited college in Building Systems or related field and one (1) year of paid experience in a related field.
OR A combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of work experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Valid Minnesota Special Class Engineers License.
Valid Minnesota Second Class – C boiler license or higher within 2 years of hire.
Registration as an unlicensed power limited technician within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of the operation of buildings.
Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation of fire protection systems.
Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation of emergency generators.
Knowledge of safety procedures associated with maintenance operations, tasks, and repairs.
Skill in the use of computers and technology.
Skill in operating digital temperature control systems
Skill organizing assigned workload.
Skill in performing repairs and maintenance on electrical equipment.
Skill in performing a variety of plumbing repairs and maintenance.
Skill in the use of tools, electronic meters and materials commonly used in building, maintenance, and repairs on miscellaneous related projects.
Skill in operating building automation systems.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions and assignments.
Ability to plan, layout and work from diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.
Ability to prioritize daily job duties.
Ability to establish and meet clear standards and work timelines.

Responsibilities

Performs preventive maintenance tasks on building equipment and systems including secured areas such as the Adult Detention Center and Work Release Facility.
Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains life safety equipment and mechanical equipment.
Replaces defective or faulty parts and fabricates and installs replacements parts and new equipment as needed.
Repairs, operates, monitors, and maintains Facilities Management Systems (FMS).
Repairs and maintains plumbing and plumbing fixtures throughout facilities.
Repairs and maintains low voltage electrical equipment.
Maintains and repairs low pressure steam systems.
Orders and maintains parts inventory.
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Diagnoses problems, selects appropriate tools, and makes corrective changes.
Performs routine welding operations in the repair of equipment.
Operates forklifts and personnel lifts as needed.
Repairs, maintains, and operates electronic and pneumatic temperature controls throughout facilities.
Mentors and trains new employees and interns.
Performs weeknights and weekend emergency call backs and checks of buildings and equipment when required.
Performs related tasks as assigned.
