About The Position

Provides leadership and instruction to a team of minimum security inmates to accomplish Cleaning/Janitorial services to assigned public facilities, buildings and structures, ensuring all necessary custodial tasks are completed on a daily basis and in a timely manner. Implements a broad range of commercial janitorial/commercial standards and procedures developed by the Hall County Buildings Maintenance Department. Oversees a crew of Minimum Security inmates to efficiently accomplish custodial tasks in county buildings.

Requirements

  • Must be a High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Must have at least 2 years experience in Commercial Janitorial/Custodial work.
  • Valid Class I Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to supervise team of low security inmates.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment and practices of custodial work.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and routine cleaning.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to move oneself about the job site by walking; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; push or pull items; repetitively use hand/arms/legs; grasp items; and move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to handle stress and emotions; concentrate on tasks; discriminate colors; and examine/observe details.
  • Ability to direct others; maintain stamina during the workday; meet deadlines; operate equipment; and stay organized.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing); bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; reach overhead; position oneself by crouching or kneeling; and move/transport items weighing between 26lbs and 50lbs.
  • Ability to think analytically; remember names and other details; make decisions; and adjust to changes.
  • Ability to attend work related meetings and trainings; handle confidential information; and use math/calculations.
  • Ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.
  • Exposure to biological and chemical hazards; dirt/mud, fumes, gasses, odors, and dust; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces.
  • Work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans restrooms, including scrubbing and cleaning urinals, toilets, sweeping and mopping the floors, emptying the trash, wiping the mirrors, and cleaning the sinks; replaces all paper products including toilet paper and hand towels as necessary.
  • Empties the trash, vacuums the floor and cleans all assigned areas facilities including court rooms, meeting rooms, and offices; Vacuums carpeted floors; Sweeps and Mops Hard and Resilient Floors; cleans ash trays.
  • Dusts and cleans windows, walls, hallways, elevators, stairs, closets, shelves, and storage areas; polishes desks and railings as necessary.
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks on equipment.
  • Completes report forms on daily work per location, including lights which have burned out and other deficiencies or maintenance concerns.
  • Checks inventory and orders supplies from the Operations Manager.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
