The role includes sizing ductwork, plumbing, and fire suppression systems, selecting suitable equipment, and drafting and modeling these systems using AutoCAD and Revit software. The role also develops specifications in Word and Speclink, and reviews drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy. This role requires strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and a willingness to mentor other engineers and designers. Hybrid or fully remote work from British Columbia, Canada is allowed but candidates may be asked to travel to client worksites a couple times per quarter.

  • Interpret mechanical, plumbing, building, and fire codes to provide guidance in design implementation and ensure alignment with code requirements.
  • Interpret fire protection and life-safety standards, including hazardous area classification and ventilation, for design and compliance with standards the CSA, NFPA (e.g., NFPA 820 for wastewater facilities) and relevant environmental or industrial regulations within a wastewater context.
  • Develop and implement solutions for hazardous area ventilation, odor control, and explosion prevention in highly corrosive or combustible environments typical of wastewater treatment.
  • Use software to draft and model HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler systems, and develop specifications for HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler equipment.
  • Interpret relevant codes and standards for fire sprinkler system design and compliance.
  • Review HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler drawings/specifications, coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure integration and compliance.
  • Size ductwork, plumbing, and fire sprinkler distribution systems using industry-standard techniques and models.
