About The Position

The City of Vacaville is seeking a Senior Building Inspector to join their Community and Economic Development Department. This role is crucial in ensuring construction projects meet top-tier safety and quality standards by conducting critical inspections, reviewing plans, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. The position involves maintaining compliance with building codes and regulations, helping bring visions to life while safeguarding the community. Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of building codes, regulations and construction practices.
  • Strong analytical skills for reviewing building plans and inspecting construction projects.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with contractors, developers and the public.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and supervise inspectors.
  • Detail-oriented and can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong commitment to safety and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Six years of building inspection experience with a public agency inspecting all trades.
  • Three years of experience inspecting commercial and mixed-use development at the journey level.
  • One year of experience working in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Possession of a Residential Combination Inspector Certification and Commercial Building Inspector Certificate, or equivalent, issued by the International Code Council (ICC) or other recognized agency.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

  • Completion of related college coursework.
  • Experience in any of the major trade fields or in performing various trade work.
  • Possession of additional certifications issued by the International Code Council (ICC).

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections of residential, commercial and industrial construction projects to ensure code compliance.
  • Review construction plans and specifications for adherence to building regulations and safety standards.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to junior inspectors, ensuring consistency in inspections and interpretations of building codes.
  • Respond to inquiries from contractors, developers and the public regarding building code requirements and inspection processes.
