About The Position

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Engineer to join their Ontario Bridge Team, based in either their Ottawa or Kingston office. This role involves preliminary and detailed design of bridges and other civil structures for federal, provincial, and municipal clients in Ontario and Canada. The position is within a collaborative design team environment, supported by professionals with extensive experience in bridge engineering. The Bridge Team is experienced in bridge planning, new design, rehabilitation design, inspection, evaluation, and project administration, and collaborates across Canada, sharing work and knowledge. Senior staff have published technical papers and are active on bridge code committees, contributing to the firm's reputation for leadership in bridge engineering.

Requirements

  • University degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (licenced with PEO) with 7-12 years demonstrated experience in the area of structural design and bridge engineering in Canada
  • Superior technical understanding, design abilities, and up-to-date knowledge of current bridge technologies
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software used in bridge design and assessment
  • Specific areas of expertise required are in the planning, preliminary and detail design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts.
  • A thorough knowledge of current Canadian design codes and standards is essential
  • Experience with inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures
  • Experienced in report and proposal writing
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams
  • A committed team player with a willingness to help others and collaborate with team members
  • A valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is considered an asset
  • Ability to work and converse in French is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preliminary and detailed design of complex bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures for all levels of government
  • Perform and coordinate structural analysis and design
  • Manage bridge engineering projects, coordinate design teams, and support project management and technical teams across WSP
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications and reports
  • Provide QA/QC and peer-review services for designs and drawings
  • Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction
  • Contribute to proposal development and technical write-ups
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to intermediate and junior engineers, support staff, contractors, and/or vendors
  • Demonstrate sound written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application skills
  • Work well under pressure to meet project deadlines
