About The Position

Parsons is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Construction Inspector to support bridge construction projects in Alberta. This role involves supporting bridge and structures construction projects for major clients including Alberta Transportation, City of Edmonton, and City of Calgary. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bridge construction inspection and contract administration for both design-bid-build and design-build projects, with familiarity with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors and/or major municipal standards and project delivery methods. The position requires minimal supervision, independent performance of all aspects of bridge construction and contract administration, including plan development, scheduling, contracts, and procedures. The role involves maintaining accurate site records, leading project report preparation, and demonstrating expertise in applying engineering theories to resolve field issues. Additionally, the Senior Bridge Construction Inspector will provide leadership, mentorship, and functional guidance to junior staff. Relocation to construction site locations is expected.

Requirements

  • Extensive and varying experience in construction inspection roles on bridge projects for major clients in Alberta such as Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, City of Edmonton and/or City of Calgary.
  • Adept at reviewing safety plans, construction plans, project schedules, and engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to support multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Willing to supervise and mentor the next generation of bridge construction inspectors.
  • Must be an excellent communicator with strong emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to effectively use MS Office computer software and familiarity with industry standard project management tools to manage cost and schedule as required on a project-by-project basis.
  • Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid AB driver’s license.
  • Must be registered or able to become registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in a wide-range of climates and environments.

Nice To Haves

  • A professional designation is preferred.
  • May be occasionally required to travel out-of-Province.
  • A degree or diploma in a related engineering discipline is required, plus at least 5+ years of related experience in bridge construction inspection.
  • Experience with major clients in Alberta, such as Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, City of Edmonton and/or City of Calgary is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with contractors, designers, and owner’s representatives for the completion of complex construction assignments involving standard and major bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and associated infrastructure.
  • Provides technical evaluation of work in progress and resolution of constructability issues.
  • Maintains first-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of all work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Supervises construction engineering work and provides technical expertise for construction engineering disciplines, as well as survey personnel.
  • Reviews and interprets design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and feasibility for technical execution of work.
  • Provides resolution for difficult and/or complex technical engineering problems across disciplines and coordinates the application of solutions.
  • Reviews and comments on shop drawing submittals and collaborates with the Engineers of Record.
  • Provides technical guidance to site personnel regarding installations while working with a variety of Engineers of Record.
  • Ensures that all work is installed in accordance with plans, specifications, and industry and quality standards, including ensuring all tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented.
  • Collaborates with contractors on site to eliminate hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.
  • Ensures that all personnel engage in safe work practices in compliance with site-specific safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Reviews and analyzes project data, completes plans and specification reviews, and assists with bid preparation.
  • Monitors construction schedules and prepares progress appraisals.
  • Provides schedule and progress appraisal data to project managers and owner’s representatives.
  • Leads or participates in regular site meetings in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Maintains a daily log for permanent record of project construction, as well as engineering data for final project turnover and report.
  • Initiates and maintains records, back-charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required.
  • Maintains construction technical catalogs, supplier data, and other literature pertaining to the project.
  • Interfaces with the client and upper-level management.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
