About The Position

Backyard Bookkeeper is looking for new senior bookkeepers to join their team. This is a part-time W-2 position with flexible hours, requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the option to increase to 35-40 hours per week over time. The role involves keeping the books for regular clients, taking responsibility for enterprise clients with more complex financial reporting, and assisting with large projects requiring cleanup or setup. The position is primarily remote, with quarterly in-person team lunches and two annual company events. While the company is looking for Utah residents, out-of-state candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis. A non-compete agreement is required.

Requirements

  • Daytime availability for meetings and client calls.
  • Must have regular availability during regular business hours for communication with clients and participation in team meetings and training.
  • Prepared to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
  • Good at managing multiple ongoing projects across several clients.
  • Able to provide good, consistent service to clients who are sometimes assertive and demanding.
  • At least three years of full-charge accounting experience in a small business environment (including data entry, A/R, A/P, reconciliations, etc).
  • Thorough understanding of general accounting/double-entry bookkeeping principles, comfortable making journal entries correctly.
  • Excellent communication skills, including through email, phone, video chat, and other online media; be able to respond to messages within one business day.
  • Self-motivated, able to work effectively under deadlines without much supervision, excellent follow-through.
  • Have your own computer with a number pad, headset, and webcam, along with a good internet connection.
  • Type at least 50 WPM.
  • Generally tech savvy on computers, Windows, Microsoft Office, and internet; able to learn new software quickly.
  • Resident of Utah (though out-of-state candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis).

Responsibilities

  • Keeping the books (data entry, reconciliation, review, financial statements) for a handful of regular clients.
  • Taking responsibility for enterprise clients with more complex financial reporting.
  • Helping with incoming large projects that require cleanup or setup before transitioning them to "maintenance mode" bookkeeping.
