About The Position

CVS Health is seeking a curious and motivated Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to shape how data from its Databricks platform is modeled, governed, and delivered for analysis. The platform ingests and validates external healthcare data from more than 25 payers across more than 10 data domains. This role owns data quality, delivery timeliness, cost, and operational reporting relied upon by domain teams and leadership. The position focuses on building trusted, documented data products that can be used across visualization tools, setting standards and guardrails, and coaching users so self-service analytics remain accurate, secure, and consistent. The role calls for flexibility and a willingness to learn new tools and technologies. Remote work within the US may be considered. The role designs and maintains reporting-ready data models, dashboards, and metric definitions in Databricks; publishes certified datasets; maintains data documentation; establishes governance practices; evaluates BI tools and leads migrations when needed; improves query, warehouse, and refresh performance; manages BI assets across environments; and partners with stakeholders to improve adoption and usage.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years in business intelligence, analytics engineering, or data engineering, including building enterprise dashboards and reporting data models while working with cross-functional teams.
  • At least 3 years of SQL and data modeling experience, including window functions, CTEs, performance tuning, and dimensional modeling skills such as star schemas, fact grain, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • At least 3 years of experience with at least one enterprise BI platform (Tableau or Power BI), including publishing, permissions, and performance tuning, plus working knowledge of other platforms.
  • At least 3 years of experience building semantic layers, such as governed reusable data sources or metric layers (e.g., Power BI semantic models, Tableau published data sources, dbt, or Databricks metric views).
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Databricks or a similar cloud data warehouse, such as Snowflake, Synapse, or BigQuery.
  • At least 3 years of data governance experience, including role-based access, row- and column-level security, and handling sensitive data in reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 years in business intelligence, analytics engineering, or data engineering, including at least 4 years building enterprise dashboards and reporting data models.
  • Proven ability to coach users, write clear documentation, and explain data to technical and business audiences.
  • Experience with analytics engineering practices such as Git, code review, CI/CD for BI assets, and dbt or similar frameworks.
  • Python experience for data preparation, automation, or analysis.
  • Thoughtful use of AI tools to accelerate development and analysis, with ownership of AI-assisted work; familiarity with natural-language analytics such as Databricks Genie or Power BI Copilot.
  • Tableau, Power BI, or Databricks certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain reporting-ready dimensional models, views, and metric definitions in Databricks so metrics are defined once and used consistently across tools.
  • Build and maintain dashboards covering data quality, delivery timeliness, SLA attainment, payer scorecards, and platform cost, from executive summaries to operational detail, using sound design and accessibility practices.
  • Publish certified and documented datasets for domain teams and analysts; maintain the data dictionary; and train and coach users to work with data correctly.
  • Define how data is exposed to BI tools, including access controls, PHI/PII protection, certified versus exploratory content, and design and naming standards.
  • Evaluate BI and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Databricks AI/BI; keep business logic in the data layer; and lead migrations when needed.
  • Tune queries, warehouse usage, and refresh schedules; troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues; and manage BI assets in version control across environments.
  • Gather requirements from domain teams and leadership, turn feedback into improvements, and track adoption and usage.
