Senior Behavioral Health Therapist, Day Shift, Behavioral Health Inpatient
About The Position
Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center's Behavioral Health Department is seeking an experienced Senior Behavioral Health Therapist. This role is crucial for providing quality therapeutic care tailored to the age, diagnoses, developmental stage, and mental status of assigned clients. The therapist will conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, provide individual, group, and family therapies, and collaborate within an interdisciplinary treatment team to develop effective strategies and interventions. A key aspect of the role involves assisting clients in developing self-respect, dignity, integrity, and self-actualization through various therapeutic services. The position also requires documenting services, coordinating with community referral sources and agencies for discharge planning, and intervening in crises to ensure safety. Additionally, the therapist will assess and intervene in cases of suspected child/adult neglect or abuse, promote positive patient-family-community relations, and supervise interns in providing psychotherapeutic treatment. This includes monitoring patient progress, reviewing treatment plans, consulting with other professionals, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical social work experience, preferably in medical or behavioral health settings.
- Current licensure as LCSW-C, LCPC, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in conducting substance use assessments with ASAM criteria.
- Strong skills in assessment, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

- Experience facilitating group therapy with adults and/or adolescents preferred.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality therapeutic care that is appropriate to the age, diagnoses, developmental state, and mental status of the clients that are assigned to their specific unit/department
- Initiates and implements complete, comprehensive psychosocial assessments
- Provides individual, group, and family therapies to clients and their families
- Participates in and interdisciplinary treatment team to propose and develop strategies and interventions that would promote excellent therapeutic outcomes
- Assists clients in their development of self-respect, dignity, integrity, and self-actualization through a multitude of traditional and adjunctive therapeutic services
- Documents services provided and disseminates information/reports to community referral sources and agencies, i.e., DJS, DSS, HHS, APS, CPS, LCC, etc.
- Co-Ordinates with the interdisciplinary team, referral sources, and community resources aftercare and supportive services to ensure a successful discharge planning process
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to diffuse psychotic and/or behavioral crises to ensure client, unit, and staff safety an stability
- Assesses and intervenes in cases of suspected/disclosed child/adult neglect/abuse issues
- Promotes positive patient-family-community relations
- Supervise interns psychotherapeutic treatment of patients and their families including individual therapy, parent collateral work, family therapy, couples therapy, and group therapy.
- Monitors progress of patients in treatment and formally reviews treatment plan and goals regularly.
- Supervises interns consultation with other professionals working with the client to assure coordinated and comprehensive service delivery.
- Supervises interns documentation, including maintenance of charts in a complete, timely and legible form, including parent information forms, consent forms, data collection forms, progress notes, and treatment plans and goals as required by state DHMH
