About The Position

The Threat Assessment Team at the University of Iowa is hiring for one position, either a Senior Behavioral Health Consultant or Behavioral Health Manager, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. This role involves conducting violence risk assessments for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to ensure campus safety. The position will lead the development and guidance of complex organizational programs, collaborating with various university departments such as Administration, Nursing Management, UI Police, Human Resources, UI Health Care-Safety and Security, and General Counsel. The role requires in-person responses to situations and collaboration with university departments, community partners, and other key entities. The goal is to provide efficient, effective, and confidential evaluations to enhance campus security. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health, behavioral sciences, sociology, social work, or psychology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Senior Behavioral Health Consultant).
  • Experience (typically 3 years) in managing situations and conducting interviews that involve individuals who are emotionally distraught or person(s) with complex personality traits or tendencies (for Senior Behavioral Health Consultant).
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work with complex systems, balance multiple priorities, and to ensure a high level of accuracy in work produced (for Senior Behavioral Health Consultant).
  • Proficient analytical skills including the ability to analyze a variety of data, determine validity, draw conclusions, and make recommendations (for Senior Behavioral Health Consultant).
  • Ability to work with users at all levels of experience as a team member and as an autonomous, self-motivated sole contributor (for Senior Behavioral Health Consultant).
  • Master’s degree in behavioral health field or equivalent combination of education and experience (for Behavioral Health Manager).
  • Experience (typically 3 years) in program development in behavioral health or Threat Assessment/Violence Prevention and conducting investigations pertaining to loss prevention (for Behavioral Health Manager).
  • Certified Threat Manager (CTM) (for Behavioral Health Manager).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build coalitions among multiple stakeholders (for Behavioral Health Manager).
  • Public speaking or training, including the proficient use of multimedia systems (for Behavioral Health Manager).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in behavioral health, behavioral sciences, sociology, social work, or psychology (for Senior Behavioral Health Consultant).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct timely and expedited violence risk assessments and provide opinions on violence risk.
  • Consult with reporting parties utilizing empathy, reflective listening, and professionalism.
  • Assure compliance with threat assessment professional ethical standards.
  • Ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and privacy requirements relating to FERPA, HIPAA, CLERY, and Law Enforcement sensitive records.
  • Develop and guide complex organizational programs.
  • Collaborate with Administration, Nursing Management, UI Police, Human Resources, UI Health Care-Safety and Security, and General Counsel.
  • Respond in person to situations as needed.
  • Collaborate with departments throughout the University of Iowa, community partners, and other key entities.
  • Provide efficient, effective, and confidential evaluations.
  • Program development in behavioral health or Threat Assessment/Violence Prevention (for Manager role).
  • Conduct investigations pertaining to loss prevention (for Manager role).
