About The Position

As a Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer at magniX, you will lead and contribute to the design, specification, and integration of advanced lithium-ion battery packs for electric and hybrid-electric aerospace applications. This role blends hands-on conceptual design with the technical leadership required to guide partners and suppliers through detailed development and industrialization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience with EV lithium battery pack design
  • Experience with high voltage and large size battery packs (400V+ and 50kWh+)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specification and procurement of battery pack components and material
  • Experience with qualification strategy development and testing of battery packs, including thermal runaway containment
  • Proficient in CAD design tools (preferably Solidworks)

Responsibilities

  • Develop lithium-ion battery pack mechanical and structural packaging concepts in collaboration with magniX engineers and external suppliers.
  • Perform CAD modeling of modules, pack enclosures, mounting systems, and aircraft installation interfaces.
  • Ensure designs meet aerospace structural, thermal, vibration, and safety requirements.
  • Thermal runaway containment strategy design and development
  • Define and execute test plans for battery module mechanical testing, including thermal runaway propagation and containment, structural performance, and environmental testing.
  • Define battery pack requirements from the system level down to individual components, considering aircraft integration, safety, and certification needs.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to partners and suppliers responsible for detailed pack design and manufacturing development.
  • Review design artifacts, analyses, engineering changes, and qualification plans to ensure alignment with magniX requirements.
  • Contribute to program planning activities related to battery pack development, verification, production readiness, and industrialization.
  • Participate in development of certification strategies and means of compliance for high-voltage battery systems.
