About The Position

CMS Controls Atlanta is seeking an experienced Senior BAS Field Installer to join their growing Building Automation Systems (BAS) contractor team. This role involves executing complex field assignments, delivering high-quality installation and checkout, resolving field-level issues, supporting developing installers, and leading assigned work when needed. This is a senior technical field position focused on installation and troubleshooting, not formal people management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Building Automation, HVAC Controls, DDC Controls, or closely related field experience.
  • Strong commercial BAS installation, startup, point-to-point checkout, electrical, controls, and field-troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong HVAC controls fundamentals and practical knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to independently execute complex BAS field installations and lead assigned field work when required.
  • Ability to read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, sequences of operation, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Ability to identify, document, communicate, resolve, and appropriately escalate field problems.
  • Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Applications Engineers, technicians, contractors, customers, and other trades and to guide developing installers.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Commercial DDC/BAS platform experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Distech Controls training or certification and/or Niagara Framework N4 experience or certification.
  • Experience with other major commercial BAS platforms; strong fundamentals and ability to learn new systems are valued.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 and other BAS manufacturer certifications.
  • Commercial BAS commissioning, central plant controls, or systems integration experience.
  • Experience in K-12, commercial office, government, or industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, configure, label, and check out DDC controllers, control panels, sensors, transmitters, actuators, relays, VFD and equipment interfaces, control wiring, communication networks, and third-party field devices.
  • Work from control and mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, points lists, submittals, network diagrams, specifications, and other construction documents.
  • Perform point-to-point checkout; verify controller power, inputs and outputs, sensors, actuators, equipment enable/disable functions, addressing, communications, and basic controller or device configuration before commissioning.
  • Install, verify, and troubleshoot field-level BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, Modbus RTU/TCP, RS-485, controller-to-controller communications, and third-party interfaces, including polarity, termination, addressing, and basic IP architecture.
  • Diagnose and resolve field-level wiring, power, I/O, device, communication, addressing, equipment-interface, and installation issues; determine whether problems originate in field installation, mechanical equipment, programming, engineering, networking, or another trade.
  • Apply practical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, including AHUs, RTUs, VAV boxes, fan coils, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, and ventilation systems, to verify controls operation.
  • Maintain accurate checkout records, red-line markups, device labeling, deficiency documentation, and field information needed for as-builts, punch lists, closeout, and turnover.
  • Follow approved design, scope, codes, manufacturer requirements, and CMS standards; identify discrepancies, scope gaps, constructability concerns, material shortages, and schedule or labor impacts early.
  • Clearly document and escalate advanced programming, engineered design or sequence changes, complex integration or networking, mechanical repair, and potential additional work before proceeding whenever practical.
  • Coordinate field priorities, sequencing, access, materials, routine trade interactions, milestones, checkout, and completion for assigned work.
  • Communicate field conditions, quality concerns, scope risks, schedule impacts, labor impacts, and obstacles promptly to the Project Manager or appropriate CMS resource.
  • Inspect work, correct field-quality deficiencies, protect installed equipment and customer facilities, minimize rework, and use labor and materials responsibly.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to developing installers; demonstrate proper installation and checkout practices, reinforce CMS standards, and share troubleshooting methods.
  • Represent CMS Controls professionally and maintain a safe, clean, organized work environment.
