About The Position

Syllo is building a unified litigation platform that helps lawyers and paralegals use language models and agentic AI throughout the litigation life cycle. The company serves enterprise customers, including major law firms and corporations, and aims to reduce litigation costs and improve access to high-quality representation. The Senior Backend Software Engineer will build and scale systems that power intelligent data experiences. This role focuses on clean architecture, reliable APIs, and high-performance infrastructure in a startup environment. The position is remote in the United States, with a stated salary range of $160,000–$200,000, plus health insurance and equity.

Requirements

At least 6 years of professional engineering experience.
Strong programming skills in Ruby or Python.
Experience developing APIs using frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Flask, or Django.
Proficiency with relational databases, full-text search engines, and/or vector databases.
Familiarity with distributed systems and cloud technologies, such as GCP, Pub/Sub, or Kafka.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization tools.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment automation.
Understanding of authentication, security, and data privacy best practices.
Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain backend systems and APIs supporting Syllo’s data platform.
Collaborate with front-end engineers, product managers, and data teams to deliver scalable, high-quality features.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Work on system design and architecture to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
Integrate data sources and third-party tools to enhance platform capabilities.
Participate in technical design discussions, peer code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
