About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Internal Tools to build a next-generation internal tools platform that unifies legacy systems on a modern foundation. The role focuses on high-performance middleware, backend services, APIs, and scalable data architecture. The engineer will build new software from the ground up, help shape architecture, design APIs and services, optimize relational data models, and collaborate across the business. The team works horizontally across Publisher and Merchant business areas, so communication, ownership, and cross-functional collaboration are essential. The position involves developing scalable backend systems, APIs, microservices, middleware, and server-side components; designing reliable and maintainable services; building and integrating RESTful APIs; and designing and optimizing relational database schemas. The engineer will use AI-assisted coding tools in their regular workflow, critically review generated code, and retain ownership of code quality. Additional responsibilities include testing, code reviews, documentation, issue resolution, Agile collaboration, and continuous improvement of engineering practices and platform performance.

Requirements

Strong proficiency in Java.
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
Experience designing and maintaining backend services, microservices, and distributed systems.
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system design.
Experience with relational databases, including schema design, SQL query optimization, and data integrity.
Practical, hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
Ability to critically review AI-generated code and take ownership of the resulting implementation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Experience working with Agile methodologies.
A professional LinkedIn profile is required.
Availability to work within the Pacific Time zone.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend systems.
Build APIs, microservices, middleware, and server-side components.
Develop new platform capabilities from the ground up and help consolidate legacy systems into a unified platform.
Build backend services for internal tools and AI-related use cases.
Contribute to backend architecture and technical design decisions, applying design patterns and distributed-systems principles.
Evaluate technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve the platform.
Take ownership of technical implementation and production-quality deliverables.
Design and implement RESTful APIs that integrate internal tools and business systems, considering performance, security, reliability, maintainability, and data consistency.
Design and optimize relational database schemas, write efficient SQL queries, improve database performance, and maintain data integrity and consistency.
Use AI-assisted coding tools for code generation, refactoring, testing, and debugging; review generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
Contribute to AI-powered internal tooling or LLM-based application integrations where appropriate.
Write maintainable, well-tested code; participate in code reviews and technical discussions; document design decisions and implementation details.
Identify and resolve complex technical issues and continuously refactor and improve the codebase.
Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and deliver features.
Work across Publisher and Merchant teams and integrate tools, platforms, and systems across the organization.
Communicate technical concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders and contribute in an Agile environment.
Stay current with backend engineering practices and emerging technologies; evaluate tools, frameworks, libraries, and AI development solutions; recommend improvements to productivity and platform performance.
