About The Position

Epic Games is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Identity team, which is responsible for driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5 and bridging connections for licensees and internal game teams to online services. This team enables games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services and Epic’s own online services for cross-platform online features, including login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics. The Identity team focuses on account initiatives, impacting internal apps like the Epic Games Store sign-in and account management, as well as game client account experiences for titles like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys. They are building a universal platform and account experience to empower users to connect accounts across ecosystems and gaming platforms, aiming to create a user-first open experience for the metaverse. As an engineer at Epic, you will leverage deep full-stack understanding to solve complex technical challenges with novel solutions, collaborating with an experienced team in the games industry.

Requirements

• 4+ years experience crafting secure, scalable, and highly available web applications and services.
• Experience programming back-end web services in Java or similar language.
• Experience programming front-end applications with modern frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular, etc. (React is common at Epic Games).
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS).
• Demonstrated understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Get things done: Assess a challenge, craft a solution, and implement it.
• Work with distributed systems to handle large scale challenges (using Java, Scala).
• Work with public cloud infrastructure to facilitate a fast-moving ecosystem (using AWS).
• Own the entire lifecycle of services and web applications, including live operations and deployment.
• Design, create, deploy, and operate user flows for sign-in, sign-up, and account management.
• Work together with both upstream and downstream service owners, producers, and other cloud, infrastructure, and embedded DevOps engineers to ship solutions.
• Craft solutions using modern SQL and nonrelational databases (using MongoDB, Dynamo, and Redis).
• Connect front-end user flows with back-end services in efficient and reusable patterns to support multiple clients and customers across the Epic ecosystem, including games, apps, and services.
